Feeling so tired all the time

Hi everyone, just thought Id write because I have had this awful sinus infection or about 3 months now, I've had 2 lots of antibiotics and it still has'nt gone, I do suffer with depression and have been on prozac for about 8 years.

It has helped a lot, but just recently because I feel poorly all the time, its beginning to get me down and I feel my depression creeping back.

I just feel as though I want to sleep or just sit on the sofa watching TV, its such an effort to do anything, any house work or do the kid's tea etc

this morning I got up and got the kids off to school, then got back into bed and slept until 12 noon, even then I had to force myself to get up, and I came straight on here to talk to you lot.

I am also overweight and hate it, I'm size 18, and I think half of the problem is because i'm too fat, and losing even a bit of weight would make me feel better in myself. I do try, but find it SO difficult, I love my food, with my depression I tend to eat more, unlike some people who don't eat much when depressed, I wish I was the other way.

I lead such a boring life, I'm married but not happy with my relationship, I fell out of love with my hubby years ago, he knows, but we still try to carry on for the children's sake.

I have no interests, can't get any enthusiasm for anything, just like sitting at home watching tv and eatting, don't even like going out now, I'm not agoraphobic or anything, but just can't be bothered to get myself ready to go out the door, we have no food in the house hardly so I'm gonna have to do some shoppng soon, but hate going to supermarket, and hate spending money on food.

I sometimes do a big shop on internet, try to get jumbo packs of things so they last ages and I don't have to shop too often.

I do have another docs appointment Wednesday, my hubb says for me to request a referral to ear nose and throat specialist now its been going on too long. I agree, and I have read on net that if leave infection too long it may cause perminant damage.

A "Sinus Washout" has been mentioned and said it is very unpleasant, so I am really scared now, I want to get rid of this infection but don't want anything nasty done to me[V].

Has anyone ever had one of these "Sinus Washouts"? please tell me about it if you have.

Anyway I've done enough babbling now, buy everyone

    Love Jacqui

    Hi Jacqui

Sorry to hear that you are feeling down. The infection and worries about this are probably not helping with this.

I suffer from depression too and have recently been through a really bad patch with this, where I spent most days in bed feeling that there was no point in making the effort to get up and not wanting to do anything. Depression takes away all enthusiasm for life and the ability to find enjoyment in anything.

I'm now trying to pick up the pieces and move on again and I am coming to discover that no matter how much you feel like giving in to the depression and staying in bed or hiding away, this only serves to make the problem worse. I do know how much effort it takes to even get dressed, let alone to force yourself to get out of the house. However, even getting out for a very short walk can help. It might not feel like it immediately but if you keep persevering with it you can find that you gradually start to feel able to do a little more.

Generally using distraction each day is also helpful, particularly doing things that take your complete attention, as this stops you from being able to concentrate solely on the negative thoughts and helps prevent rumination.

Do you have much support around you from family and friends? Are you having any treatment for the depression apart from the antidepressants?

I think it would be worth telling your doctor on Wednesday how depressed you have been feeling recently.

I realise how difficult you might find it, but try to get out to the supermarket as this will give you something else to focus on for a while.

Good luck at the doctors and let us know how the appointment goes on Wednesday.

    Jac,

The infection will not be helping this at all but it is not the only contributary factor

Here is your chance to change. You are lucky that you have not got agoraphoboia or anything that stops you going out and so you need a good dose of motivation to help get you out.

    Lets suggest a few things

Walking - the best form of exercise for the new at it. First of all you can do it by yourself or meet up and then join a walking group or dog walking servive

Class at a local centre. Even Yoga, Tai chi, pilates without much movement will bring you benefit or a more active one

Take kids out to play in the park- family walk out round a NT place or something large

Get started on the GI diet which is best for anxiety and depression

I'm sure others will have their tips to add too.

Only you can do this. Your choice

    hi Jac,

Try doing little things at first and then working up from there. As Meg says, going for a small walk is a great place to start. As for losing weight, from personal experience, I find that it's hard to lose the first few pounds and then after that it gets easier as you slowly get more confidence and feel good about yourself..

I was just reading through this thread, and I noticed that Meg mentioned the GI diet. Meg, what is this? Could you please let me know where to find any info about it? Thanks,
