New member, medical knowledge but in the same boat.

Hi,

I have a a weird and wonderful journey to where I am today. I started out my career wanting to become a medical doctor and taken in a lot of knowledge through that time. I drifted off that path and ended up a software developer for an investment bank (polar opposites, I know).
Through the years, I developed a health anxiety and it’s become part of my life, however; the irony is, through the medical knowledge I have, it’s almost become an enemy. In this case, knowledge isn’t always power as it fuels my anxiety and I challenge my GP and push for further investigations.
I would say that, we need to trust our doctors, because the amount of work it takes to become a doctor is huge, it’s very demanding and they are very qualified (more so than Google).
I’m not a fully qualified doctor, so please dont take my advice as any means of a diagnosis and certainly not over your own doctors advice. I’m also suffering with a health anxiety and the main reasons I decided not to end up as a medical professional.

My partner wanted to be a paramedic, her father is a heart specialist so was encouraged to go into the medical route but wasn’t for her.

Nah, not as cool as that. My parents debated on Jack or John and I still get called Jack by my dad and it winds my Mum up. I just go with it :-p.
