    Hi,

I feel like you sometimes - I think meds are like sailing a boat using only the sail to steer by.

You didn't say what symptomatic relief was for. If anxiety, I found Moclobemide extremely useful. If it's mood needing brightening there are several (but finding them is the trick). I found Venlafaxine xxxmg/day plus Risperidone 1mg/day works well for removing the veil of hopelessness and permits a relatively normal life. Those are what have worked best for me (5 yrs now) and as I say, we're all different.

I hope you find symptomatic relief soon. Now isn't a good time to be seeing specialists, I guess - they're all of on holiday :- (

    Hugs

Can you take it day by day? Easy for me to say, I know. I panicked and fretted over whether to take the meds for the very anxiety I had...panicking about panic, so to speak. Sheesh! But don't think of the meds as so concrete and a must "black or white" situation... If it does not work for you with one med, or you sense your body is not responding as you wish, can you think in terms that each day offers a new beginning, and new possibilities for a different med, etc?
That's what worked for me. I know that the anti anxiety med I was on following a doozy of a panic in October is there if I need it or not, and that anxiety or panic attacks are like a broken arm which will heal, and meds are like a cast....It is no harm to use the cast as needed while we heal...If the meds are not working for you, then you have so many options. Capture the hope and fly on its wings. There might be days when we peak and wane, and that's ok. After my doozy attack and going to the hospital with quite an annoying panic attack in Oct., the ER doctor looked me right in the eye and said, "You can do this. Meds are here if you need them, and your GP is there to help as well." Wow. How comforting. Powerful and healing words! Yes, we can do this.....I am sorry you are going through this right now, but it will get better. I know its painful...but this grey area will pass...just don't force yourself to think in such black and white terms...i.e., gosh..what if this med doesn't work...that's the end of the world, etc etc etc. There's always a different med, no med, some meds, etc., and light at the end of every tunnel! You'll find the right one, or situation which works for you and helps you along your journey. xxo andHugs, Taf

Thanks so much Taf and antipodes!

Anti, I suffer from anxiety and panic. The only symptom I seem to have is depersonalization. I am taking lustral every day 50 mil and xanax when I need it. Its only been two about two weeks since I started the ssri. Im just so damn frustrated that this wont pass and the meds wont help.

Taf you are right that its hard for me to think in gray!!! I tend to always think in black and white. I just feel stuck right now. I cant see the light yet and to be honest because Im not a fan of taking pills(big phobia) starting this med has caused alot of anxiety for me. I read one article that stated that ssris can cause depersonalization and now every time I take it I think about that!!! I can take my xanax with no issues cuz I never read bad things about it..... Thanks for the replys Love Chrissy

    Hi DagoGirl,

Lustral is an SSRI anti-depressant. There are other meds more specific to anxiety discorders. If you get on top of the anxiety (and it is possible) you should have less need for the reliever (which is dependancy forming). If you're not getting any benefit from the SSRI, I suggest you discuss this with your doctor so a anti-anxiety med can be considered. Any mood problems can be addressed by a low dose complimentary other med.

Good luck, I hope you get well soon,

I feel exactly the same as you. I have been taking my meds (prozac) for 3 weeks and am not yet feeling the effects. I think that I am expecting too much too quickly and by keep worrying about it I am only feeding the anxiety and making things worse for myself.

I hope we both feel better soon
