HIV from the dentists?

I have a huge paranoia of going to the dentists and its because I am paranoid of getting a disease from the medical equipment.. this paranoia came about after reading a newspaper article about a bunch of people who ended up getting hiv from the dentists after the dodgy dentists didn't clean his equipment... could this happen nowadays if you have a lazy dentist?

I've never heard of anyone getting HIV from going to the dentists, and I would imagine these days this does not happen at all or is extremely, extremely unlikely.

There are strict rules about hygiene in doctors offices and dentists these days, so all equipment has to be sterilised very well before use and dentists have to follow exceptional hygiene standards. Even so, infections like HIV are not that common in many developed countries so chances are, you wouldn't catch it anyway.

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about but maybe at your next dental appointment you could discuss this with the dentist and they will hopefully be able to reassure you that you're in safe hands
