Depression and anxiety returned - Fluoxetine stopped working?

Hi everyone

I've been on Fluoxetine after a bad break down episode with anxiety and depression since August last year until now. After three months of initially being on this medication my anxiety and depression became virtually non-existant and I was able to cope with a lot of life changes and challenges during this period really well. Roll on until a few weeks ago I have begun to feel my anxiety and depression kicking in again and although I don't feel I'm on the verge of another break down I do not want to be feeling like this yet again.

I'm due a medication review at my GP next week so this is going to be the first issue that I bring up. The last thing I don't want to have to do is have to change antidepressants because I'm on the verge of starting my dream job and the last thing I need right now is to deal with a change in medication and the side effects that come with it. I've had really good success with Fluoxetine but now it seems like as if it has stopped working. I'm currently on 40mg and previously for the first two months I was on the medication I was only on 20mg. I am not sure whether maybe I need a dosage increase but again I am concerned with side effects if any.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I increased from 20 to 30 after 4 months, then up to 40 after another 3 months. I had no issues with side effects, still feel tired but that has always been there.

I think 80 mg is the max, so you have a long way to go. If it helps take it.
