    Underarm / breast pain

For the last couple of months I have been experiencing pain in my underarm area that has also been causing on and off breast tenderness. At first, I thought there was a lump and scared myself half to death, though now I think maybe the angle at which I was placing pressure on my underarm area may have been to blame, because I can feel the same lump on the other side when I push on it the same way. Lately though, it has become more and more sore, and is just generally tender. I don't think there is a lump, though it does hurt when I push on it and there may be, but I just can't feel it because of the angle, pressure, or whatever. Because of the consistency of the pain - how it comes and goes and the pain varies by the day, and how some days it will swell and other days it will be fine and not bothersome - I am a little less worried of it being something like breast cancer. The fact that I am only 20 lessens my chances a little bit as well, which is comforting. However, that said, I am unsure of what it COULD be... I don't know what other options there are in terms of something like this. I am out of state from my GP and won't be home until mid-August, and I have a physical scheduled for then, but until then, I just would feel more comfortable with some reassurance and comforting thoughts, knowing it might not be something so serious. Thank you in advance for your kind responses.

Edit: I have also been feeling a little bit run down lately, been sleeping a little more than usual. I don't know if I'm sick or not. My period is coming in I think 2 weeks or so, so I'm not sure if it's related to that - especially because it tends to hurt at different points in my cycle every month. Additionally, I notice it is especially tender and noticeable right after I shave or put deodorant on.

Theres a whole bunch of "lymph nodes" right where you're talking about - these are the areas of the body that enlarge and can become painful, they do this to fight infection. You have them in various places of your body, the easiest ones to find in my opinion are in the lower abdomen. just where your legs start. Most of the time when they find reason to enlarge, you dont necessarily feel unwell - they are doing their job properly.
And yes they are lumps and you can feel them. Usually its only a problem if they become large hard and painless or remain large for a long time. Normally they have a rubbery sort of feel, but unless you're used to how they feel then dont get too bogged down in that.
From the sounds of it, as you say, you've been putting extra strain on yourself and your immune system is kicking in on and off.
I have no doubt your GP will put you at ease.

OMGGGG, I HAD BEEN EXPERIANCING THIS TOO! i AF EW MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED A LUMP, VERYY TENDER VERY PAINFUL. I WAS SICK AT THE TIME. EVER SINCE THEN I ALWAYS FEEL MY UNDERARMS, NON STOP EVERYDAY. I FINALLY WENT TO THE DOC ABOUT IT SAT AND SHE TOLD ME NON OF MY LYMPH NODES WERE SWOLLEN. WHICH IS WHAT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT (I EVEN MADE A POST ABOUT IT) EVER SINCE SHE TOLD ME THAT AND I HAVENT BEEN TOUCHING THEM I DONT FEEL ANYTHING ANYMORE. IM TELLING YOU, THE UNDERARM PAIN COMES FROM POKING AND PRODING AT THEM. IF IT MAKES U FEEL BETTER GO TO THE DOC AND THEY CAN TELL U FDOR THEMSELVES BUT THAT AREA IS SUPER SENSITIVE AND WHEN ITS TOUCHED CONSTANLTY, IT DOESNT LIKE IT AND REACTS!! BREATS ARE ALWAYS TENDER AROUND THAT TIME OF THE MONTH. TRY FOR 2 DAYS NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHINGGGGGG IN THE AREAS U ARE TALKING ABOUT AND SEE IF IT GOES AWAY, I CAN ALMOST GARENTEE IT DOES. BEST OF LUCK!

i had a fatty lump under my arm that i had an ultrasound on, because it was pretty painful and pretty big. it ended up just being fatty tissue, mine was probably caused because i had just had a baby, and everything was pretty swollen, but it lasted several months. it is probably related to your period and things can get a little swollen around that time. just watch it, but try not to worry about it...probably nothing at all, and even if it is what i had, there was nothing to be concerned about.

I had the same thing under my right arm about 7 years ago. It hurt so badly that I went to my female doctor and got checked for breast cancer. They pushed on it...that hurt...but found "nothing of concern". They told me I had likely pulled that muscle under there carrying my bookbag at school. I switched to carrying it on my left arm and it went away. Do you think you may have pulled a muscle? Also, poking and pushing is making it worse ;-)

    Re: Underarm / breast pain

Thank you all for your kind responses, I have been doing my best to not touch it (except yesterday when I shaved, but that was a must!) and it is feeling better, not by a lot, but a little bit. Yesterday it was almost painless, today it is a little tender again. I don't know if I pulled a muscle, but that is the only part of me that hurts consistently, and I don't know what muscle I could have pulled to result in that! I take solace knowing that most cancer is supposed to be a painless lump - in that area anyway, and that mine is giving me all sorts of trouble and hurts... which sounds silly but hey, I'll take what I can get! I am half excited half scared for my dr.'s appointment in mid-August.

    Re: Underarm / breast pain

I am really panicking about this pain I have which just in between the side of my left breast and armpit, it's very tender and painful when I touch it. I have only had this pain after getting of my bed to go down stairs and make a cup of tea. I have anxiety so I stress over this sort of thing and always think of the worst I will never go to the doctors either as in always scared they will tell me bad news, I know it sounds stupid and I wish I was not like this but I just can't help it.
I'm only 20 years old, please reassure me!!
