    Spot?lump?boil?

    Hi there,

I was just wondering if you could help me ..

I have had a little lump on the side of my neck for the best part of a month..

its feels like a spot but under the skin.. im saying spot because i have tryed squeezing it on several occassions a like a yellow pus had came out... sort of a string of it ..

after i have done that bit does seem to get smaller but then returns ?

its not a solid lump when i prod it , it can move slightly under my finger

should i be worried ? its just had the best of me recently... and its been just over a month..

    Kind Regards

    Adam

sounds like a boil if pus comes out of it.

boils are notoriously hard to get rid of!

well boils don't grow but you need to get the "core" bit out and then they start to heal (assuming it is a boil)

    Hi Adam,

I believe we addressed this by way of private message, but for the sake of the forum, a small palpable and mobile cyst under the skin, particularly on the neck, face or back and which expresses a string-like matter is most often a sebaceous cyst. Unlike boils and abcesses that are due to staph aureus infection, sebaceous cysts are quite painless and tend to grow slowly and persistently. The cysts result from the errant blockage of sebaceous fluid within the gland network that forms the cyst which feels maleable or soft and mobile to some extent.

They can be excised under local anesthetic but sometimes return. They do not constitute a sign of a more serious nature.

    Best regards,

    Rutheford Rane, MD (ret.)

ahh yes I forgot about sebaceous cysts. I have one on my back and the doc told me to keep squeezing it and yes it does come out stringy like.

It has never gone but it harmless apparently and I just squeeze it sometimes lol.

Mine has never gone completely but it is harmless

I know people who've had those. Harmless, just unpleasant to deal with. I've seen people with particularly large ones lance them and then work them until nothing more comes out.

On the bright side, you could become one of a group of youtube posters that entertain the world with videos of their cysts being popped!
