abnormal smear

Someone please help. I got a letter the other day saying next week I have to go for a colposcopy because my smear was abnormal. I am absolutely terrified.

Breathing, just remember to breathe. Colposcopy treatments, whilst not nice are used to investigate changes. In all reality they don't know much until they get a good look and I talk from experience. I had bleeding after sex, then an abnormal smear. I did have some dodgy cells which wasn't great but they only presented with changes. That is what the smear detects, the changes way before the other stuff happens, so keep breathing and get through the colposcopy. After my colposcopy they opted to treat, quick procedure 8 years ago, smears all clear ever since. Just try to stay positive. (Easy for me to say I do appreciate because when it is my own body I drop into actual panic attacks!)
