    In hospital. Super ventricular tachycardia

I developed this 6 years ago. I am under a specialist cardio and have had a loop recorder implant 2.5 years that diagnosed it. Up to yesterday my svt attacks were short as in no more than a minute although i feel very faint and have the incredible fluttering in chest. I used to get bad attacks every few months with daily flutters but recently the daily flutters have been getting more and more . Yesterday i had alot
Of short attacks sometimes in runs. Went to bed and laid on left side which always sets it off. This time it was flip flopping madly then revved up to 196bpm. It was very scary and nothing i did stopped it so ambulance. Of course it went back to fast sinus tacky but had multiple attacks in hospital in 5 hrs. Got betablockers which helped. On ward and monitered all the time.
I am so worried about going home. I know that if an atack persists you go to hospital. Its the fear of having last night happen again plus i am so scared to lay down but o havent had any sleep for nearly 2 days now. Impossible to sleep with tacky.

Hi there , sorry to hear you are going through this , I know when my heart is skipping beats I focus on it and then can't think of anything else and laying on your left side just makes you more aware of every beat , hope you get through this ok and can get some rest no sleep just makes everything feel much worse , Take care .

Yes, also very sorry to hear this. Maybe they can do an ablation? I hope things improve for you whatever happens.

Thanks. Ablation is next as the worry of wondering when its going to do it again is not good. I have appt at end feb with the specialist who offered mr ablation 2 yrs ago but as my attacks were over in less than minute i declined. I still think the bad flu i had before xmas is connected as the attacks got much more frequent after that.

Good luck with everything! I know that heart worries are at the center of my anxiety, and in turn make the situation for me worse because it gives me more skipped beats and flutters. I will be sending positive vibes your way as you deal with this!

Re: In hospital. Super ventricular tachycardia

I started with ectopic beats as a late teenager when I was pregnant and they have plagued me ever since and I am now 56! I accepted they were horrible but harmless . I was menopausal when I one day got an intense fluttering in my chest and went very faint for about a minute. As you can imagine this was new to me and freaked me big time. I had endless 24 hr and 3 days ecg's but apart from my constant ectopics nothing else showed as I never had another attack when wired up. I asked to be sent to a cardio who specilises in arrythmias and he read my history and straight away said I am positive you have super ventricular tachycardia which is not a dangerous disorder although if the fast heartbeat it creates does not stop after 30 mins to hour you need to go to hospital. He also said that svt is usually triggered when there is hormonal upheaval and he sees most woment at puberty pregnancy and menopause, and I had a loop recorder implanted ( in top of left boob) two half years ago. within 3 months they had recorded a really good one minute attack and he told me I def had svt and offered me ablation but as the attacks were not every day and short lasting I declined and I also declined the drugs that are used ( beta blockers and blood pressure meds and arrythmia meds). As I said I got proper horrible flu at xmas and since then I had alot more ectopics and more svt attacks.
Saturday was a day of lots of ectopics and multiple very short svt attacks. Laying down has always tiggered multiple ectopics especially laying on my side and this is what happened as usual when I went to bed but instead of settling my heart raced faster and faster. 45 mins later I called the ambulance and I had 6 svt attacks of relatively short duration over 5 hours. I am taking minimum dose of betablocker as any higher and my bp is too low. I did have a sudden fast heartbeat yesterday but it didn't get up to the svt level.
Have to say that for someone with health anxiety this is a bit of a cruel one as even "normal" people get freaked who suffer from svt as it stikes out of the blue.
I am terrified of having the ablation as any medical intervention freaks me but at same time I realise that I need to take the risk of having it to get rid of this constant fear of an attack. There is a 1% chance of death with the proceedure

I want to challenge you to reverse your thinking as it relates to this procedure. Especially since this is something that you seem to want. Instead of focusing on the 1% chance of death with the procedure, focus on the 99% chance of having the procedure and you live. I don't truly know if those are the numbers, I'm just using the 99% that is opposite of the 1% you posted about. I know it's very scary and if I was in your situation I would absolutely be focused on the 1%. We are the masters of our own minds and as hard as it may be we need to refocus our thoughts and energies to the positive spectrum. Have you ever tried meditation? I'm using a really cool app that helps me (don't know if I'm allowed to say what it is on here because I haven't read a rule about it but dont want to get in trouble for possibly promoting something). It helps me meditate and part of the practice that it has had me doing is seeing the negative thoughts, noticing them, and then coming back to the breath. I believe that if that can be used you could also see the negative thought, notice it and come back to a positive thought. I know it's easy for me to sit here and type this, but just remember how strong you are! I'll be sending positive thoughts your way and I hope everything goes well for you!

Have you tried to stop the SVT with vagal maneuvers?
