Really persistent dp/dr not sure what to do

Im not one to join these kinds of forums or post things like this, but going on a few months now, ive had this very bizarre feeling that i think may be dp/dr, or ocd. Now its may, and since about november ive noticed that moving objects/people appear very strange to me. I cant quite explain it, but as opposed to how i used to perceive motion, where everything seemed fluid and linear and logical, everything now moves rather choppily (sic?) and as though its moving one moment at a time. This feeling or perception or whatever it is is almost impossible to ignore, sometimes its even in my dreams! Ive almost literally thought/perceived this constantly for about half a year. Sorry if this doesnt make sense, i just had to get it off my chest, i can barely function at all! any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Do you feel like things move at a pace too quick for you to perceive them? Is it a bit like reality is observed through a looking glass, as if it wasn't real?

Hi ana, thanks for responding. Yes, at first it was that way, and i knew it was probably related to anxiety or what-have-you, but here recently (i cant say when, precisely), ive been thinking that maybe there's something to it, and that thought scares me. What i mean is, perhaps ive been isolated for so long that i really HAVE discovered some weird principle of consciousness, time, space, blah blah blah, that explains what im seeing. I know im not psychotic, im fully oriented to time and place and everything, i dont know i just cant shut off my mind. Really feeling near my wits end! Ha ha

You're definitely not psychotic for having thoughts that sounds like classic depersonalisation/unreality to me. Have you seen a psychiatrist or have been diagnosed? I can actually relate to what you've described there as I often wonder if I've discovered an alternate reality, if I'm perceiving the same as everyone else, if my brain is different to other people's brains, etc. etc. I'd have trouble perceiving fast movements and they'd disturb me and send me into panic...

Yes i used to see a psychiatrist about a year and a half ago, but then quit due to our incompatability. I was diagnosed i think with Schizotypal personality disorder, depression with psychotic features, and GAD. Its gotten a lot worse since then and i believe now its turned into some kind of ocd. Ive become absolutely transfixed on the notion that time is constantly flowing forward, and pretty much every thought, perception, movement, emotion, sensation, everything seems to reiterate that. Also, ive been very socially isolated since the age of about 14 or 15, and just now ive decided to get back into socializing again, so that probably is compounding things, the trepidation and uncertainty of it all. Boy, if thats "classic" derealization...!

Oh, sorry, I'd like to redefine my definition of 'classic derealisation' after reading your latest post. The thing is, some symptoms that accompany other disorders can also accompany anxiety, hence my question about your diagnosis. I can't say I know much (if anything) about personality disorders, but perhaps finding a therapist you're compatible with might be very helpful to you. Socialising will most certainly help, too. I hope you find way of connecting with people, maybe by starting to communicate online before moving on to meeting them in person...

Oh, no, youre alright, ms.ana 😊. I just meant, if thats standard, then boy! Its really rough! Unfortunately, here in this crud country everyones a money-grubber, so ive got to try and get good insurance before i can see somebody. Oh well, c'est la vie, i suppose. Thanks for your kind words and thoughts, theyre greatly appreciated.

It really is rough! I see a therapist once every 2 weeks now as I can't afford to see her more often. I'm pleased I could help. I wish you well

Enjoy it! Some people use drugs to get in such state
