End stage COPD

Hi all,

My dad apparently at end stage COPD (Advanced Emphysema). His nurse told him he could have a year at most, but prob less.

I just wondered if anyone has any experience of being told something similar and that person went on to live longer than a year??

Any help much appreciated.

My father has COPD and is under control with it at the moment.

However have had plenty of experience this year of meeting end stage COPD sufferers on the various hospital wards he has been on. All I can say is that you can never really quantify it - some of these people appear at death's door and then make fabulous recoveries.

How does he cope with day to day living? Is he severely incapacitated by the COPD?

I would discuss this with his consultant or specialist Respiratory Care Team for advice and direction on this.
