Hi,

Would really appreciate some advice on this...

I've been having this fairly constant sharp stabbing pain in the back, op left of my head for about 6 weeks now, which occasionally radiates down to the top of my neck. If i lift anything fairly heavy with my left hand, the stabbing pain appears.

I've also been getting these strange "wet" patch feelings, usually in the left hand side of my face.

I've seen a doctor (who was crap) who advised me that it sounded like I had a trapped nerve. I'm going to see a private doctor on Monday for another opinion.

So...it could be a trapped nerve, but, it could also be MS right? Of course, I'm convinced.

I had a thorough eye test recently (picture of the back of the eye etc) and everything was fine...

Some reassurance until Monday would be appreciated. I'm on the verge of going to A&E and wasting a nurse's precious time over my fear...

Thank you :)

Hiya x
It does sound like a trapped nerve to me. Im an ex-neuro nurse by the way. Try some anti-inflamms if you can tolerate them, and putting a hot water bottle on the area often helps as it dilates the blood vessels and connective tissue and is pain relief in itself. You dont need to go to A&E on a Friday believe me......

Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion though. I hope you feel better soon take care.

Hi Nicole01, I can also advise the hot water bottle treatment, your post reminds me I must buy a new one for the winter months :(

I have had the sharp stabbing pains for 21 years now..on and off but more on!!! feels same as the dentist touching a nerve when drilling a tooth,,Ouch and you jump off the couch??...!

Its a nerve being irritated or pinched, often known as "trapped".

You need to find a competent doctor/specialist in orthopeadics really, your everyday GP is not going to be any use I'm afraid....

Have you had some kind of accident or injury to the area in the past?

Hi there,

Thanks both for your response.

No injury that I'm aware off. I started doing weights classes but i didn't get this specific pain in the back of my head whilst in class - i was actually getting into a lift and it just came out the blue.

I'm working myself up into a right frenzy about it...and the "wet" patches aren't helping.

I think I understand when you say "wet patches" its radiated sensations from the sharp pains..if you follow me, it is hard at times to explain these pains to a doc etc!, I think you have to experience them yourself and most doctor's never have!!! that's what I find anyway... I do have something similar, I just describe it in a different way ...

I don't think you have MS either...try to chill out a little:hugs:

Best advice I can give is, remember why you on this forum - you have health anxiety - and once you have the second opinion, and he says there is nothing to worry about, realise that what you have is a problem with worrying about disease rather than an actual disease

otherwise it will just move on to something else - believe you me!

Geoff (whose worry list has included prostrate cancer, skin cancer, HIV, testicular cancer, heart disease, oral cancer, bowel cancer, lung cancer, mesothelioma)
