I am freaking myself out AGAIN. So I have found a bump and it truly feels like a lymph node, about 1 cm in size, and it does move when i poke it around. But the problem that is freaking me out now is that it is in the front of my neck on the right side, about halfway down my neck. Isn't that where your thyroid is? I haven't found anything about there being lymph nodes in this area that can enlarge, and it is only on one side. Could this be a growth on my thyroid????

Thyroid problems (hyperthyroidism, goiter, etc) run in my mom's side of the family, so now I am freaking myself out so much. Could you have a lymph node there? Or is it most likely something on my thyroid? It does not hurt, has been about the same size for over a month and a half. That was when I first noticed it but it was during a sinus infection so I just ignored it then.

Any thoughts? If it is a lymph node, think it's fine to be 1 cm and mobile? I just am freaked that it is only on the right side, front, halfway down ... eek.

Hey
it could be part of your voicebox or thyroid your feeling-normal. If it makes u feel better I have thyroid cysts that are 1cm in diameter and they were picked up on a routine scan-I would nt have been able to feel them-I think you can only feel thyroid cysts when their big so doesnt sound like thats what your feeling. There are numerous lymph nodes in the neck area and if they are mobile-normal. Try not to fiddle with them as this will tenderize them and you ll be more aware of them. I only know all this because I went through the same anxiety with the lymph gland thing and saw an ent guy who explained all this x

Hi there

I did have a growth in my thyroid about 3 years ago. It was in the left lobe and you could see that both sides of my neck were uneven. I had it for 2 years plus before it was diagnosed as all my GP kept doing were tests to see if my thyroid was over active - it wasn't and then nothing more was done. Eventually I went back and said I knew thyroid was not over active but pls could I have the uneveness investigated. Got referred to specialist and then ultra sound showed a benign growth. All who saw it were very unconcerned about it. They recommended I had the left side of thyroid removed just to be on the safe side, which I did and have no ill effects and now have a nice even neck:)

What I am trying to say is, even if it is a growth on the thyroid, it is very unlikely to be sinister and can be corrected very easily and normal life will be resumed. I learnt that the reason that all were so uncocerned was that thyroid cancer is very slow growing and very treatable - and that is the worst case scenario. Not sure if I have put this well enough to put your mind at rest but hope I have. If you have any questions please just ask.

I used to work for a thryoid advice charity as an advisor and one way of seeing if your thryoid is enlarged is stand in front of a mirror and then turn you head one way and see if any lumps pop up on side of neck at bottom and then turn other way and see if any pop up that way. I have seen quite a few people with goitres and they are very distinctive either when they turn their head to one side or even looking straigh ahead as they can look like a pouch at the bottom of your neck.

If I feel my thryroid gland then there is a nobble at the front and this is normal so you may be feeling this.

any Dr will be able to tell you straight away if what you are feeling is your normal thryoid or not so maybe for your peace of mind go and ask.

Ok this will sound weird but the bump kind of squeezes into my neck and either flattens out or elongates when i move my neck. any thoughts? not protruding at least.

Have you shown it to a Dr??? This is only way you are going to get any peace and stop worrying so please make appt and show it to a Dr and let us know what they say.

Even though I have seen alot of thryoid swellings obviously its totally impossible for any of us on here to pass comment as we cannot see you:)

I will! I am thinking it might be a lymph node, as it does not move when I swallow, and when I (stupidly) googled, saw information stating that thyroid growths will move with the gland as you swallow. I am trying to be less nervous, I hate glands! I wish that humans did not have any lumps/bumps. Also will be speaking with the doctor about suggestions for my anxiety, if she thinks medication might help ... it's just been getting very bad lately.

Good news! (I knew it would be deep down I think) ... I went to a new Primary care doctor and she was really great at calming my nerves. She said that the neck lump is just a lymph node, and not one that is worrisome at all. She almost couldn't feel it. If this helps anybody with similar problems, she said that it is normal for both sides of the neck to not be symmetrical and even some people with just seasonal allergies have glands that are palpable. Also thinner people (I am thin) with less amounts of fat around the neck can feel them. So everything you all said was right!!! I guess I just needed to hear it from a doctor.

She was also great with my anxiety, and said that she would only give me medication if I really felt I needed it, but that it was great I was seeing a counselor and would be willing to work with my counselor if the three of us (primary doc, counselor, and me) felt medications would be beneficial. So for now I am going to keep trying my counseling and come back in a couple months to see how I am doing with the anxiety. She also was great with my white coat syndrome and making me not feel badly about it.

Thanks for all of the advice, everybody. I don't know where I'd be without the people here.

It's probably a swollen gland from your sinus infection, they will probably give you some antibiotics,
