I've had a look for this med on the forum and there's nothing recent or current as far as I can see.

Saw my GP this morning and she has suggested I try Duloxetine 30mg 1 a day for my severe pains for a month and has referred me to a hospital vascular specialist, I will go back to the GP in a month and report any improvement in my condition, or not.

I'm not on any other medication and haven't been for some time, nothing helps the spine pains and I'm using heat when its bad..like now!

I feel ok generally and have no depression problems at the moment except for the effects of my spine and other pains, I've lasted without meds for several years now.

This time I'll keep a simple record of how it goes on the Duloxetine...I'm keeping an open mind about it...first capsule tomorrow morning:ohmy:

Re: 2 weeks off Duloxetine - now the tears are hitting hard
What are the long term side effects of duloxatine to your body and do they continue to work after continued use.?

I have been taking cymbalta for 3 years ...yes they give you the runs and a few other side effects when you start the trick is to take them religiously at the same time in the morning. I take 30mgx2 every day they are good for your seritionin feelings, mood dips, temper and depression But I have problems every year at this time of year complete exhaustion and nearly all the symptoms low thyriod (which is checked and is always in normal limits) and wow, I am so hot all the time (I had hysterectomy and offerectomy 7 years ago and have experienced the change but these are feeling hot and sticky all the time not the flushes
has anyone any advice I would be so gratefull thanks anne

I have just started 30mg/day for anxiety and depression. I'd be keen to hear how its going as my side effects have been pretty horrendous! Although I was on effexor before and the side effects were similar but a bit worse...

Hi missy c, not a lot to report so far, I'm on 30mg Duloxetine but not for anx/depression, doc wants me to try them for a month for severe nerve pain, I've been taking them for 10 days , first day I think I took it too early..6.30am and without food before, less than 2 hours later I felt 'spaced out' with sweats and nausea!, I had some toast and it all passed.

I now eat something before taking the capsule and always take it around the same time...9-9.30am.

I'm also keeping a simple record in a diary, the only side effects I'm having are a dull ache in the back of my head, everything else is normal..up to now anyway, I've had a lot of trouble sleeping and can be up at all hours of the night and I'm finding I sleep a little better and for longer, about 7 hours last few nights where before I could be down to only 3-4 hours:wacko:

I am sorry you are having these problems, I have had them myself several times and been at very low points with clinical depression which caused physical problems with light and sound plus other symptoms...no good at all.

How are you coping at the moment apart from the side effects?

Hi Bruno,

So glad your side effects haven't been too bad, mind you the lack of sleep thing can be pretty counter-productive. The side effects are beginning to lessen ever so slightly, but I'm waiting for my appetite to return and the mood to lift a wee bit. I'm not crying all the time which is good, and am only mildly anxious so it seems to be improving after only a few days - which could be placebo, but who cares!!!

How is it helping with your nerve pain???

Hi missy, its encouraging to hear you are starting to tolerate the Duloxetine, not everyone can and I have found what is good for some people is not always good for me...some of the meds i've been prescribed for depression have made me ill within a week or had no effect at all, I also know that there is nearly always a very good reason for 'going down hill' and ending up in a mental mess...I don't want to go there again so I'm making an effort to fight any negative thought's regardless of the situation, having said that I sometimes wake up and think why do I bother! I think we all can have that feeling first thing in the morning...I've had too much practice to let that happen again..so far so good...!

I try to go to sleep with thought's of what I'm going to do the following morning, it has to be something I enjoy doing and it does help me to make a good start to the day...maybe you could try something like this yourself...see if it helps?

Still not had any bad side effects with the Duloxetine and I think it may help my pains...early days yet, I use an electric heat pad as well which also helps to ease the pains, I saw the doctor last week and I'm referred to a specialist in the vascular dept at a local hospital for my recent leg problems...just have to wait for the letter...I'm not reading up on anything:ohmy:

Some other developments in the pipeline too...ESA form.. ATOS etc..don't want to say too much just yet:winks::noangel:

I don't have a clue how all the trouble I'm trying to cause is going to develop but something is going to happen one way or the other!!!

Look after yourself ..OK?

Hi anx, my advice from the experience over the last 10 days is to eat something before taking a capsule, I've just been having 2 slices of toast and then the cap with a glass of water, make a set time which suits you to take it as well and keep to it, make a short note if you feel any effects you don't like so you can tell your doc what happens...

Have you been prescribed other meds before or are Duloxetine the first?, no need to be scared, I've not found them to be hitting me hard or any sudden bad side effects:hugs:

OK anx I've just been reading up...I was on Sertraline and they didn't do much for me...the breathing is anxiety I've had it myself so know what its like, I did feel a little sick after the first Duloxetine capsule and started to sweat...I took it on an empty stomach which was a mistake I reckon...have you started on them yet? if not wait until the morning and do what I do..something to eat first...take with water and around the same time every day...try not to worry...:)

I think about a week for them to start working...let us know how its going yes?

Hi missy, have you seen anx today? I was up late this morning ... 12 o'clock which is unknown for me! I'll have to confess I missed my capsule today...was feeling bored last night so broke my own rule and had a few whisky's...too many...

I think I needed a break! its tough trying to stick to the doc's 'rules'...got my hospital appointment today as well...14 November...that's quick:wacko:

I was yesterday...a wee bit, but not as much as previously. Also managed to eat for the first time in a few days, and was just really spaced out on the meds, but today I've woken up and feel so much better...no confusion/spaced out-ness, dry mouth has gone, and I've not been anxious really. Sometimes I wonder if I had just left it and not restarted the meds if I would have felt like this by now as i've only been taking them since Wednesday, and it seems awfully quick for them to work. The only side effect I have today is a mild headache and a clenched jaw!

Did you take your capsule in the end?? I found I got side effects if I missed the effexor (which gave a similar feeling to this), but once I took it again I was fine.

Glad you got your appointment....I hope it goes well!

No I missed Saturdays capsule! forgot all about it until later, I'm back to normal now and had this morning's cap, 12 out of 13 is good going for me, I often forgot to take my meds in the past, still feeling ok no effects ...yet! I dunno...we are all different how we react to meds, this one seems to be good for me as the pains are reduced now...fingers crossed!

Should be interesting next week...I know there are 2 medical record files at the hospital for me, wonder which one they will find this time, another development last week too, JobC phoned me up...I wait and see what happens next before saying anything else as I'm meeting a solicitor in a few days for a short chat.

I know all about the clenched jaw and teeth grinding! a friend also has this trouble and has a gumshield to stop her damaging the teeth, I never tried one myself.

Sounds like you are doing quite well really...its a tough fight isn't it but you can get through it:)

It sure is, but we can only try to be positive and hope things improve!

Good luck with your files, and with the job centre! Keep us posted!!!

Its good you are trying to be positive missy, the meds can't work wonders by themselves and we have to do our bit as well, talking to others with similar problems is also helpful most of the time...gives us something to look forward to.

I think the Duloxetine is having a sedative effect on me now, just had a short sleep, my PC is in my bedroom running with my email programe open...saw a new one...from NMP!...I've had 2 cups of hot chocolate and my heat pad is on too...ZZZzzzz!

I'll update the ATOS thread in 'misc' soon, just waiting for them to contact me...I think they've finally realised its best not to mess me about:noangel:
