Im 9 months pregnant, due this month...

I had a fbc done fri and got the results back saturday...

Im terrified I have cancer..
My levels were as follows
Haemoglobin 15.4 (which I have CONVINCED myself is too high despite the norm being 11-16)
White cell count was 11-11.5 (Which has TERRIFIED me as the normal is meant to be 4-11 or in some places 5-10)
Platelets 156 (normal being 150-400)

Dr claimed all was good news and the HB was fab- but despite that Im convinced its too high even if I have been eating a really high iron riched diet.
The 11.5 (0.5 elevation) is apparently ''normal'' for pregnancy too

But the white cell elevation teamed up with the high-ish haemoglobin has convinced me I have cancer of some description.
The drs know about my anxiety so expected me to grill them about the results;
It then came to light that during childbirth when emergency bloods were taken in 2010- my white cells were actually 14 :( (nobody told me this until today when I phoned up the hospital)
So now im worried Ive had cancer for the last year and a half.

YOur results are perfectly normal or so they seem to me. I have always had a blood count at top end of normal and have always been told that this is wonderful. One Dr told me that lab results can differ by up to 1 point so anything either one point over or under is disregarded. He proved ths to me because I had to have 3 blood counts taken over 2 days and in the space of one day my blood count altered by 1.5 according to the lab but next day it was back to original and this was when the Dr expalined the slight inaccuracies of lab tests so taking this into account your results are even more normal!

I wouldnt worry, in my blood tests in the past my levels fluctuated between high and low, my doctor told me that white blood cells can vary massivly test on test

If your doctor isnt concerened then try not to worry too much :)

I really would not worry about your results as they appear to be fantastic.

You have a raised Hb for starters which is far better for you in terms of the safety of your pregnancy, and also anaemia is quite common in pregnancy, but you have avoided that. It is good news.

Your white cells are fine. They are not hugely elevated, and nothing to be concerned about.

As far as your platelets go, they fall within the normal range. They are fine. It would be more concerning if they were very low, as yes, this can indicate things like blood cancer, but please do bear in mind that ALL of your blood results would be WAY off and a doctor would spot that straight away, and certainly wouldn't be telling you that everything was good.

I wish you well with your expected new arrival.xxx:hugs:

the doctor will know, they really wouldnt have sent you on your way if there was even a sniff of a problem with those results, im not medically trained but couldn't your white cell count jsut be raised because you're pregnant?

White blood cells fight infection and injury. As London said, your result might be up a bit from a cold. The range is only the norm. Not everyone starts within that range. Maybe yours are always at the high end of the scale.

As Danath said, doctor's don't take chances with pregnancies. Don't worry.

I cant stop worrying :(

thanks all for the reply though...

Does anyone know what their range was? I dont like the idea of the WBC being at the high end at all.... :( It makes me think I have cancer.
