Hey, just wanted to know if anyone has had to wait for an assessment on the NHS, has been referred to a counsellor, waiting for CBT, just wanted to ask how long have you to wait for treatment?

I've been referred to a Psychologist, 18 month waiting list :mad:

Is there anyway I can ask for an earlier appointment?

I got my assessment thro within 4 weeks xx

Its supposed to be really effective, thats what ive been referred for, said i should get an appointment within 4 wks and that was just over a wk ago xx

mine was NHS it shouldn't take long at all, sure i got my appointment within 4 weeks might have even been less actually and they recommended CBT and said will get appointment within a month, good luck, just don't work urself up like i did b4 my assessment, i was a mess, panic attacks, sick, saying i wasn't going! i was literally dragged there by my hubby, mum and sister..........family outing lol xx

I received my first counselling session through MIND via GP referral within 3 months.

It was well worth the wait.:)

Imho it depends on your area - I really think this is the absolutely key point.

I waited 3 months for CBT (that's once I'd finished waiting on the "waiting to go on the CBT waiting list"!). Only after that course finished did I get referred on to a psychologist (because they didn't know where else to send me and because I insisted).

Basically be as persistent as you feel you can be and ought to be, and hopefully they'll see you soon.

I was put on the list for CBT in July 2010 so been waiting since then

Don't need it now but thought I would see how long it took to get it through
