If they take a pint of blood that must reduce the number of white blood cells in the body, how long does it take for it to be replaced, i know it takes a while for the red blood cells to come back but couldn't find anything about white cells. Also, after donating is their an increased risk of common colds/flu? Don't want to get ill before my a-level exams!

That's a good question, when I gave blood I never got sick after, but I am not sure! I also was much less stressed out back then

Your body makes up for the lost blood within 24 hrs as it knows you have lost blood- no different from having a bleeding injury so it releases all you need from your bone marrow within 24 hrs of donation. To help it do its job make sure you drink plenty so your blood has lots of fluid in it.

Cheers guys, i've done it now, wasn't bad at all! didn't feel lightheaded or dizzy after, probably partly due to the fact i was anxious and drank loads of orange juice before
