So today is the say i get my blood test results back... so i make the dreaded call and the receptionist says the doctor needs to talk to me on the phone?

This automatically raises a red flag and panic sets in BIG TIME.

i did ask her is there anything to worry about? and she was like he found something that was a little bit high....

IM FREAKING OUT. i just burst into tears :(

if it was something like cancer they would put me on to him straight away right?

First of all, stay calm!
You aren't doing yourself any favours by getting worked up.

Think of it this way, no matter how stressed or panic stricken you get, nothing you can do can change the results. So you might as well try to relax until you speak to your GP.

If something seriously life threatening came up they wouldn't tell you that information over the phone, they would either call you into the surgery or send you straight to the hospital.

'he found something that was a little bit high' - a receptionist would not give that response to someone who has cancer, when my mums results came back with cancerous cells in her stomach, the receptionist said she was not able to discuss the results over the phone and that my mum would have to go in to see the consultant. That's when you know something serious is wrong!

Make yourself a hot drink and calm down.

:hugs:

Well i have been getting terrible upper left tummy pains and throwing up when i eat certain foods etc.. so it was a routine blood work? check liver, kidneys etc :emot-crying:

Then it could be absolutely anything that is 'slightly high' so there's no point in trying to guess yourself!
You need to distract yourself from the negative thought patterns, i know this is easier said than done but you will just get yourself into a state.

Nothing you have is immediately life threatening! :flowers:

Just thought i would reply and let you know he called back and said all the blood was fine but the high bit was showing something is inflammed and i need to see a tummy specialist

He said he wasn't sure and that he wants me to see a specialist now should i be worried? because inflammation doesn't sound all that great?

Has anyone ever heard of this???

That probably means your white cells were a bit high which can be a marker for infection or inflamation of some kind. Anything, even a really minor infection like a come can cause this. Stress and anxiety can also cause you to have a high white cell count. I expect he has to refer you to a specialist to make sure he fully investigates, how long do you have to wait for an appointment?

Hiya cattia

I am sure if he thought it was urgent they wouldn't make you wait two weeks. My husband had some blood tests earlier in the year because he kept feeling tired and getting stomach pains and his white cells were high. The Dr told him to wait two weeks then get his bloods done again and he stated to feel better, when he had the second set of bloods his results were normal. Dr said it was just an infection of some sort x

Can i ask where abouts his pains were and what other symptoms he had?

I had blood tests that came back with markers for inflammation a while back. I'd had something causing muscle aches in my arm for a couple of weeks, and my GP thought it was that. He said as long as it got better it was nothing to worry about. It did get better, and I didn't worry about it. It will almost certainly be nothing. As Cattia said, he will just have referred you to make sure he's covered everything.

Can i ask where abouts his pains were and what other symptoms he had?

He had indigestion type pains, quite sharp, in his stomach and he felt very washed out. Some days he felt OK then the next day he was wiped out again. He was like it for nearly a month then he just got better. He doesn't have HA luckily, so he wasn't really worried about it, just assumed that he had a bug of some sort.
