Sorry for posting again, I know I posted last night about something different
But last night I noticed eye floaters even in dim light which has made me petrified it's retinal detachment or something and I'm going to go blind.
I've had eye floaters for as long as I remember and had it checked out when I was very little, but I just find it odd I'm noticing them in dim light now. They're not overly noticeable just when I focus on them.
I have an eye test first thing tomorrow morning to make sure there's nothing funky going on but I am really scared, I keep checking my eye sight to make sure I'm not going blind I'm really scared of falling a sleep as well in case I wake up with no eye sight. I keep running thoughts through my head as well like If I go blind I'll never be able to see my Mum or my boyfriend ever again or If I have kids in the future I'll never be able to see them, it's very distressing.
I am trying to keep some bit of logic in my head though as deep down I know it's nothing, or if it IS something it can be sorted and I know they don't mess around with retina problems I don't know why I'm so worried but I'm just scared I'll go blind! :( Today is going to drive me nuts as I just want to know what's wrong with me.
Anyone relate to this problem?

Hi,

Sorry to hear you're feeling this anxious.

I had the same problem about 3 years ago, when I suddenly developed floaters (I'd never had them before) and I was also getting slightly blurred vision. I was terrified that I had retinal detachment etc and that I was about to go blind....

I was so scared when I went to the opticians....

They confirmed that all was totally NORMAL! and that my eyesight was perfect..... the said floaters are normal and that temporary blurred vision is usually caused by tiredness and can therefore from from constant anxiety, which makes us tired.

Good luck with the routine test, I'm sure all will be normal. Keep us posted. :)

Thank you, I am very scared as I've had flashes of light in one of my eyes for a while but I guess at least I'm getting it checked out tomorrow but I'm still very afraid. I will keep you posted on what my optician says. I feel stupid for not getting this checked out sooner

I also get flashes and other strange things with my vision, but I try not to pay attention to them. :)

I posted a reply on a thread yesterday about eyesight problems. I was a bit worried about getting a detached retina when I started getting flashes of light in one eye. I also get a kind of veil sort of thing that comes across the top of my vision in the same eye and some flickering of my vision across the top too. I saw someone from Moorfields eye hospital on Wednesday and although I do have a few things not quite right with my eyes, none of them are serious or would lead to a detached retina. I've had floaters for years and years, much more so in one eye than the other and although they are a nuisance I have always just lived with them.

Thanks for replying :)
I'm still pretty nervous but your comment has put my mind at ease, I also have the kind of veil like symptom but only in the dark? And it doesn't even happen all the time, how odd. Guess I'll find out what's going on tomorrow and will keep you posted on what's been said.

I only get the veil type thing when I go from a dark room to a brighter one. If I look up towards it then it seems to go away. The Moorfields eye specialist told me to now and again sit in front of a totally blank wall and make sure there are no 'blind' spots that don't go away. I also think when we have anxiety it does exaggerate any eye problems and things like floaters that other people would just dismiss we will keep looking for.

i have had floaters since i can remember, it wasnt untill earlier this year i found out that they were floaters and alot of people get them .. my anxiety was always set off by the floaters, but when i found out what they were i notice them less .. i wear glasses for distances so my eyes are checked every 6months and no problems :)

Quick update :)
Went to the opticians today and the woman was lovely, she did all the tests like checked behind my eye, checked the pressure in my eye, she said she didn't need to dilate my eyes to check behind them either which I'm glad about lol but just to put my mind at ease she did take some photos of my retina and showed them to me and said everything looked healthy and also said the symptoms of a detached retina are far more obvious to spot and my symptoms of floaters and twinkles of light are usually just normal in short sighted people like me so looks like all is well :) I'm still worried a little bit and keep thinking "What if the retina photograph missed something" or "What if it wouldn't even show up on the photograph" however I have calmed down an awful lot since last night and know its just anxiety trying to wind me up now.

I've got a couple of really 'big' (they look that way to me!) floaters but also been expertly analysed recently for other eye problems. The floaters have NEVER been seen as a problem by eye specialists (in fact they disregarded them as totally unimportant immediately) - so don't worry!

My eyes always go funny...sometimes it's like mist covers one or two. Sometimes it's like someone's taking pictures of me at a distance as I get that camera flash kinda thing happen....
