Hi Jenna and welcome to the site, I'm not sure what BDD is, but there are lots of lovely people here who can give you help and support. I suffer from health anxiety and fear/anxiety brought on by stress at work. Read through some of the info here and you will see that you are not alone.

Thanks for explaining that Jenna. i can't relate to that totally but I did go through a patch for three years where I was afriad of losing my hair and was totally obsessed by it, kept checking it, couldn't wash it brush it etc, would go into a real panic - don't know if that is similar. I'm fine about it now, moved on tosomething else.

i am just so glad i have people to talk to on here xx , no-one understands me , they just shout and it makes me worse. I cant even walk down the street or watch tv with my boyfriend for the fear of seeing a "slim beautiful" person , because my mind is shouting at me to compare my "fat ugly" body to their "slim beautiful" body.
I am obsessed with how i look , if there is a reflection i look in it , i hardly eat anymore , i am obsessed with my hair , i am constantly sucking myself in to achieve a "slim" look which is causing damage to my body....i just cant help myself , it is beyond my control and i am just at my wits end ...:(

Hi Jenna, and welcome.
Just wondering what help you have had. Has the GP referred you anywhere?
I know you say you can't control yourself, but with the right help from a specialist I hope that you will find the state in which to control this. It must be awful for you, but remember that looks are only skin deep. It is your inner beauty; your soul that counts. You have a boyfriend, so you are obviously not so bad.
We have a small number of people from BDD here - I hope you are able to share your issues together, but of course we are all here for you.
Take Care,
Ray

Hi Jenna,
Poor you, its horrible feeling like that. I used to be very self-critical when I was younger and still have episodes now. I can relate to watching tv and feeling inferior and unattractive, and I think that is what my husband will think that he would prefer someone like that etc.
I used to hide myself away if I had a few spots I would feel so ugly. But other people thought I was attractive I just couldn't see it or believe it. Occasionally I'd feel not to bad but generally very self critical. I am by no means perfect I am 31 have impefections but I think if somebody judges me just on appearance are they worth knowing? I know I'm o.k generally and some people think I'm more than o.k. though I find that hard to believe most of the time.
We do live in quite a looks oriented society which can be hard but in the local supermarket take a good look around, there are a mixture of people all unique, and not all perfect. You probably focus mainly on beautiful people, I did, and then it highlights all your insecurities.
Look after yourself, take care of yourself, treat yourself like a friend, don't judge yourself harshly. If you find you cant get away from the mirror worrying, put your make-up on get dressed and just get out in the fresh air, I spent so much time worrying what I looked like in front of a mirror when I was younger.
Best wishes
