Hi, I have had cloudy blurred vision for 7 weeks, which I put down to anxiety. Eventually decided I ought to get it checked, so was referred to an eye specialist this week. He told me I have cataracts he also wanted to do MRI to check for possible benin tumour pressing on nerve, so had that also and am awaiting results.

Completely freaking out. Since weds appt keep having flashing lights like light being switched off and on in front of my vision, not sure why so asked my GP but he didn't seem concerned even after explaining that i have been told cataracts and am due to have MRI. My eyes feel really sore tired so could be that I suppose, but kind of put my initial blurred vision down to anxiety and now all this, so don't want to take chances. Im waffling!

Can anyone help, need some reassurance I think.

HI - I am the partially sighted one on here with loads of eye problems so hope I can help you.
How old are you for cataracts??? I was born with severe short sight and that means cataracts form much earlier (mine started in my early 40's). I also had a vitrious detachment go wrong as well ( this happens naturally in people usually over 60 but again because of my severe short sightedness it happened in my 40's).
Did you have the flashing lights before you saw the eye specialist??? If you did then he would have seen if there was any pulling on your retina as pulling due to things like vitrious detachment causes flashes at edge of vision on movement of eye. If its has started since you have seen specialist then I would ring your eye clinic at hospital and you should be seen same day.
The eye surgeon is being very thorough sending you for mri - did he say he could see bulging at the back of your eye that would indicate pressure on the optic nerve????
I am afraid with so little info it is hard to give you much help but you can at least be reassured that you are having all the tests.
The most important thing is if the flashes of light on movement of your eye is new as this is serious and needs immediate investigation - my hospital eye clinic will even see people at a weekend. Don't want to worry you but having experienced retinal problems it would be wrong of me not to warn you and better safe than sorry.

Hi Countrygirl thanks for responding. Im 43, so quite young for cataracts but apparently my vision is excellent very slight prescription needed for reading only and very minor astigmatism. He did a thorough eye test and then added die which I assume is when he saw cataracts. Said they would not consider operating due to good vision. Have floaters but had them for a while. The light flicking on off Im not sure whether before but definitely noticing it now. Have had sensitivity to light for the last 7 weeks sunlight/dim light the flickering is not there all the time, and have no real pain in eyes just feel tired.

He did not mention bulging behind eye for MRI did just said outside possibility of Benin tumour optic nerve... Did not expect any of this.

the flashes seem to be in front of my vision and usually feels like I am blinking quite fast, if that makes sense
