Hi All

Have read through the threads on here and they have helped me a bit

Basically I am booked in on Monday for a joint colonoscopy and gastroscopy (so down the throat and up the.....) lol

Have been having bad anal bleeding and almost collapsed with aneamia in November so off I go for a check up.

Am really not looking forward to the prep or the procedure, but the results may just be the absolute worse!!!

Anxiety is now through the roof this week (not helped by the fact my husband is at risk of loosing his job)

Any words of advice or just a virtual calming slap round the face always welcome :winks:

Yep. It will be one continuous procedure. They'll put you out, and before you know it, they'll be waking you up, and you'll say, "Is it over?" And you'll feel great!!No worries, OK? ~_~

They rarely put people under for it now ( although it does seem to depend on the hospital ).

But, its not that bad, I had the same done on the same day, it was uncomfortable and a bit embaressing, but was over quickly enough

Thanks so much guys for the responses, they have helped put my mind at ease a bit more

I have just read over my leaflet again and it looks like they are planning on a sedation which sounds fine to me and will update x

Well just started the "no eating period. Start taking the cleanse in 3 hours - yummy!

Anxiety building nicely

Its normal to be anxious though, everyone would be, even if they dont suffer from anxiety. Just think that this time tomorrow it will all be over, and you can spend the evening chilling out and forget all about it

Thanks for the reminder that this isn't just me!

Well am now just starting prep part 2 (the revenge). First batch wasn't too bad actually and whilst I did have a disturbed night I did manage to get some sleep

My appt isn't until 3pm so if I can once I have settled down after the prep I may try to sleep again - thus ignoring the fact I am already hungry lol

Well it's all over and I am back to work!

Best news first...apart from a small Haitus Hernia my results are all normal across the board. No issues at all

The prep wasn't too bad, nothing you would choose to do or drink, but it was tolerable.

The scopes themselves, well I had sedation and the throat spray, but it was very mild so I do remember everything. The gastroscopy - I did gag a couple of times, but the lovely nurse sat talking to me and stroking my head and as soon as I found a breathing rhythm it was fine. And over in just a few minutes.

The colonoscopy was mildly uncomfortable especially when it turns corners! lol. Worst part was the bloated feeling from the air they pump in, but again totally bearable even for me.

I was in and out in 3 hours including the mistake I made of choosing hot chocolate to drink afterwards and feeling very very sick from that.

Day after I was glad I took it off work as I was very tired and a bit achy, but again with careful consumption of food and drink and napping I am back at work today and fine.

So I can honestly say I am so so so glad I went and had this done and if I had to have it done again would not be bothered by the thought.

Thanks to all for their support :D

Thanks for posting how you got on Dragonsblonde and glad you got the all clear! I have just been booked in to have both examinations on the same day (March) so feeling anxious like you did. Not looking forward to drinking the fluid to clear me out or abstaining from food for 24 hours. I am currently on Mirtazapine for depression and it makes me want to eat so not eating is going to be tough.
