Hi, i've read things on this site that do reassure me but i'd still like a little more reassurance please if possible. Ectopics, missed beats etc really scare me, they happen anytime, anywhere, doing anthing, even when i'm relaxed. Sometimes it's just one thud or it can be many linked together. ECG's are normal and i'm waiting for a 24 hour tape at cardiology but i've got to wait months. They have been better since i've been on the citalopram, but then other symptoms are worse, like dizziness and unreality etc. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, to take tablets or not to take tablets. Can't stand not to take them as i get more heart flips and when i take them i get other stuff, not really fair eh? Just needed a bit of friendly support on this one, i've been having them for 11 years but since i've been diagnosed with general anxiety and depression they are a lot worse and more frequent.

Angie hun - you know these are the classic symptom that has us anxious lot in whirl more than any other.

Just had a few myself this morning - have you read all the info pages on here about them and Claire Weekes book on them????

I know they are not pleasent mate but could you do what Meg once suggested and see them as no more annoying than a run of sneezes (that always helps me).

"Supposing a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?" said Piglet.
"Supposing it didn't," said Pooh after careful thought.

No big deal Angie

Everyone gets them but not everyone is tuned into feeling or identifying with them.

If they have been helped with an SSRI its likely to be anxiety induced. If you are ready to come off the SSRI for other reasons anyway then sometimes a low dose betablocker can help these ectopics

HI ANgie
Yes I get them. I had an ecg and then had a 24 hour monitor and the doc said there was nothing wrong even though I am getting ectopic/missed beats.
I had them really bad every day for about 3 months then all of a sudden they stopped.
I do get them occaisionally now but only when there is extra stress. I try and do something to take my mind off it and not concentrate on them
Hope that helps

Angie, I know how you feel - I've had them for years, on and off, sometimes weeks on end with runs of them day and night. I was terrified and convinced I was about to die - got so fed up I didn't care any more if I DID die! Had tests, scan, and been told it's all ok in there. Tried different tablets, no real help - I've just come off propranolol, and after a couple of days feeling breathless and heart-pounding, I feel much better. Still have a few flips, but not bad at the moment. It's really not easy not to panic when your heart seems to be going crazy, but it helps to know others also know what it's like. I used to think I was the only one - very grateful for this site!

Hi Angie,

You're in good company. I've had these suckers on and off for about 15 years and I'm still here. They really are harmless. Yesterday in the news of the world supplement someone wrote into the health page with the same symtoms and that lovely doctor Hillary(!) says he gets them too!!

Thanks for the posts of support guy's, it really means a lot. I know lot's of us get them, i know that athlete's are more prone to them, even though i'm certainly not one of those!!! lol. But they still frighten the hell out of me, when they come in lots and lots and they are all day and that. Thanks again, much appreciated for your help. Angiebaby. x

Hi Angie

I get them too they started wen i got my anxiety 5yrs ago now, i try to ignore them as much as i can because if i let them bother me now i'd be a nervous wreck worrying about them.

I still get them every day but don't worry so much as i am not the only one with them and it does reasure me.

So try not to worry about them to much worrying more could make them worse.

hi - just found this site
i had major panic attacks and stress in nov 2005 and thats when the ectopic beats started
the panic attacks have stopped but the ectopics decided to stay! get them every day now and dont know how to deal with them
had the usual tests - ecg - holter monitor - docs say yes im getting them but heart is just fine and to get on with my life and ignore them - yeah right!!
i get the beats - i get anxious - im then anxiously awaiting the next funky beat etc etc - cant get them out of my mind at all - havent been offered anxiety meds by the doc - altho i would have thought he'd try anything to get rid of me - im there so often re the beats!! he almost sighs as i enter his office!!
any advice would be appreciated as i think im gonna go mad soon
thanks lynne

by the way - im 43 - married - 3 kids - live in east yorkshire uk

Hi Lynne, welcome to the forum. I get lots of ectopic beats had all the tests, nothing wrong apparently, I asked my dr for some beta blockers which he prescribed, what they do is block the adrenaline which then enables the heart to eventually go back into normal rhyth'm, you might still get the odd flipp, but they helped me loads.

Hope this is of some help.
PS you might like to go into introduction and introduce yourself.

Best wishes,

Polly

hi everyone
thanks for the warm welcome
why do these ectopics hang around after the anxiety goes - is it that once they're triggered that its?
my doc said its foci in the heart that become excited/irritated and fire off beat signals when they shouldnt - he also reduced my thyroxine (underactive thyroid) as he said i was the high side of normal at 0.9 and that could be still triggering them - lets hope it is!!
anyone else got any ectopic stories - it helps to hear others get the same symptoms etc - i thought i was the only one as i dont physically know anyone else who gets them
take care all
