Just thought i would share a story.

Once upon a time on a busy Saturday afternoon there was a guy called Steve making his way on to a crowded train ,the station was packed, so was the train he boarded, he had to squeeze in through the doors, just about making it, there was barely room for him to stand ,he wasn't feeling all that comfortable stood in this packed carriage, he was hot, and crammed in.

Just as the train was pulling away from the station, he felt a sharp point sticking into his back, having heard all about muggings that take place on trains these days, his mind began panicking, thinking the worse, he believed there was a huge 6 foot thug type stood behind him, holding a sharp knife into his back. ''This is it'' he thought, '' i am going to be mugged, stabbed, Oh My god! ...'' There was no way out, he was trapped.

His mouth went dry, his heart was beating so fast that he thought he would have a heart attack, he started shaking, he couldn't breath properly, he started going dizzy, his legs shook beneath him and felt like they would give way at any second sending him crashing to the ground, the faces around him became blurred, the sounds of peoples voices muffled. (all the sensations anyone would have when faced with a fearful situation such as impending death by knife wounds , wouldn't you agree? )

After a minute or so he plucked up the courage to turn around, to face this person holding a knife into his back. Imagining and expecting the worst he slowly faced his attacker, ''get it over with'' he thought! As he turned, slowly and with extreme caution he could not believe his eyes, stood behind him was a little old lady holding an umbrella. There had been no knife, no thug ready to take his wallet, his life! All along the sharp object sticking into his back was the end of that little old ladies umbrella.

As soon as he realised that it was only a little old lady, the fear lifted, all the scary sensations from moments earlier completely disappeared.

So the moral of the story is that although the feelings created by fear are very scary, and very real, the reason we have them is because we believe that something awful is going to happen, but is it? The only way to find out is to have a good look, see for yourself that the fear ( the mugger-attacker) is in fact only a harmless old lady and you made a mistake. :hugs:
