Hi everyone,

I thought I would start up a second one of these, as this helped a lot of people. Hope this helps you too.

Attitude of Gratitude anyone can come and join.

With an attitude of gratitue, life can be simple, easy and joyful.

GROW
RELEASE
ACCEPT
THANK
INSPIRE
TREASURE
UNDERSTAND
DELIGHT
EXPECT

I have an attitude of gratitude therefore I expect my day to unfold with simplicity, Ease and Joy.

Here's how a Gratitude Diary works:

Every day, write down 5 different things to be grateful for. It can be anything - feeling the sun on your face, happy you talked to a friend, being able to take a walk, enjoying a hot bath. Smile as you write them down this will help you feel grateful.

Here's what will happen:

* The first day you'll be thinking hard about what to be gratful for.
You will find them though.

* The second day, you'll start to look for things to be grateful for.

* As the days go by you'll experience a shift in your attitude.
You'll start to expect things to happen to be grateful for.

* As more days pass, there will be another shift.
You'll start to recognise when things happen to be grateful for.

* Another shift will take place when you start to feel grateful
at the time the event takes place.

This is when the miracle of gratitude will really start to happen to you.

Be Thankful for...
by Author Unknown.

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know somthing
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfilment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a postitive,
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

Hope this helps everyone who joins this thread.

Yvonne

ISB, please don't judge what I am grateful for. I wouldn't judge you in this way. What has sparked this vicious reaction in you?

I am genuinely grateful for these things. If female hygiene products didn't exist, we would have much more work to do in cleaning and we'd be more likely to get infections. Skips hold treasures, thereby feeding and helping house homeless people - a thing that I didn't really know about until yesterday.

I've used this thread because I believe it's very positive to take notice of the small things in life that make a big difference. I'm afraid that I will continue to use it in this way because it is helpful for me, whether you like it or not. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you don't have anything positive to say, don't say it. Please ask yourself whether you are creating more happiness in the world through your actions, or spreading unhappiness. You have the capacity to be an extraordinarily wonderful person - fight against that vicious voice in your mind that tears other people down.

What things are you grateful for today? I'd love to see you participate positively in this thread :)

- I am grateful to have an opportunity to speak to other anxiety sufferers
- I am grateful to have developed a sense of when it's anxiety talking, not the person
- I am grateful to understand people with anxiety better that I meet offline
- I am grateful that I can calm myself down after someone has been insulting to me by seeking to empathise with them, from a place of love

Oosh sounds like you got lucky! Yay!

DeadManWalking - doesn't have to be six, don't worry.
...it has to be five! Hahah! Think up another one! Could be anything... :)

Today I'm grateful for

- I am a woman and experience pleasure in a different way to men
- I am creative
- I had a great education

[I'm thinking:
I'm a woman and I have pains every month! And childbirth will be horrible! Why do I have to have so much more pain regularly in my life than a man would?
I am creative so why have I had yet another job rejection, and where is the job for me?
Look where my great education landed me - questioning everything and living a very unstable life.]

I am also grateful for:
- my ability to question the status quo and change it
- the little stability that I do have: two good friends.

- grateful for my dog and taking him for walks as he pulls me in directions my obsessional behaviour would often reject.
- laughing & comedy
- this website & the people on it!

I realised that things I'm grateful for are often materialistic. I think it's a symptom of living in a competitive society - we naturally look to see what we have more of than others, rather than seeing how we can collaborate. So I've heard. I don't want to compare myself to others if it means that we'll both be unhappy because of that. Sharing is what surely makes us happy. So here are 5 things I'm grateful for that I've shared:

- a living space with people that have similar living standards to me
- a moment this morning on the bus where a 6 year old was talking to a 3 year old in a very authoritative way about nonsense - so cute - a lady and I laughed
- the little girl that was learning to skip and kept looking at me to check if I was watching
- mutual attraction
- mutual love of lego and building hotels with it - a conversation with a barista

- I got a round of applause - thank you CSM students
- 100 more people know about service design because I gave that talk, therefore more people might end up being service designers in a few years time, which will surely make the world a better place. So I'm grateful to have been in the position to have made this change

I'm so, so grateful that I live in a time where the stigma of depression is being eroded away. If I was in my parents' generation, it would be more difficult for me to be out about depression at my age. Things are still not great - especially with the cultural norms about being out about depression at work - but at least things are much better than they were. In a way, it's an opportunity for me to be able to be an activist around the issue - by being open, I can help make the change. Though I'm realising that I can only be open about it when I am comfortable enough with myself to be able to handle any possible repercussions of being out, and to handle the reactions, questions and false assumptions that people make. So I would never tell other people that they 'should' talk about it, in case they are not ready to. I am looking forward to being more sure of myself, and more able to be out about depression.

I am grateful that I believe now that there will be a time when I will be more sure of myself.

I am grateful that I realised that I grew up in an abusive home while I don't have a job - I have some time to process it without having to ask for time off work.

I am grateful that money came to me while I was out of work, through odd jobs, insurance, and my grandpa's will (though I'd rather he were alive and well).

I am grateful that my grandma has huge determination to learn how to use the computer, aged 91.

My friend Hannah is very good with calling me up and making sure she sees me, and is understanding if I can't do stuff.

I have a reduced rate for therapy so I can actually get psychotherapy.

Treatment for warts is free and it works quite well.

My medication is subsidised - I'm not sure how much a month's worth of citalopram would cost if we didn't have the flat fee prescription.

I am grateful to my past self for putting in a great deal of work into learning how to manage my depression, and how to listen to myself. I continue to learn how to say 'no' through practice and experience. I am grateful that this seems to be getting easier at the moment; even if I have slip ups and end up getting bullied into something I don't want to do, it helps me learn for next time.

at work we " re-won" a big account we had lost 2 years ago-we didn't even approach them-they came back to us !
( this is really big for me because my anxiety and depression soared after losing this account-my agoraphobia came back as well-the feelings of failure were overwhelming)

I was able to get great hockey tickets for myself, my niece, nephew and sister!
( meaning I could overcome my driving anxiety and drive there , also stand in line-overcoming my intense fear of offending people)

I was able to go into a grocery store and buy healthy food not the cake/ice cream I wanted!

I found " Hot Wheels" cars on sale for $1 -perfect for my nephew's birthday

I was able to take my garbage out to the curb this morning -with reduced anxiety of someone seeing me -don't know why this is such an anxious event for me but it is

5 things to be grateful for.
1. I was feeling generous so I bought myself an Easter egg. It will stay on my dresser until Easter Sunday!
2. Mooncups have been invented so I can save the planet by not using tampons, one period at a time.
3. Magazines are given out free all over London! I love ES, Time Out and Stylist. Such an abundance of entertaining words and pictures.
4. Citalopram works on me. Sure it messes with my sleep and makes me constantly thirsty, but it also makes me hopeful, curious, motivated, and productive, so I am able to live a better life than I was without it, and I haven't killed myself! Yay!
5. I'm alive! I've survived! I think I'm over the worst of this round of depression. Maybe it will happen to me again in 5 years, but at least I'll have another 5 years of life. I don't think I'm going to kill myself any time soon. In the short time I might have, I want to try and make as much of a positive difference as I can to the world around me, while making sure that I stay healthy.

Thank you Bluebell! I had a very good day for feeling good yesterday. I got some writing done on my blog, which I haven't done for ages. I even drafted a newsletter, which I might send out soon.

More things to be grateful for today:
- I had everything I need in the house today. I managed to think ahead to get enough food for today's breakfast and lunch the last time I went food shopping. I have tea, a hot water bottle, a laptop for entertainment and to order pizza from.
- I have a washing machine in the house so I don't need to go to a laundrette.
- I have enough money to not worry too much about ordering pizza.
- I can never eat a whole pizza anyway - one pizza is a dinner and a lunch for me. So it's half the price really :)
- I have enough painkillers to last me another day before I have to leave the house to get some more... hopefully I'll be better tomorrow!

- I am grateful that I have a warm duvet and a comfy mattress with two pillows.
- I am grateful that my housemates are kind, and not noisy.
- I am grateful that I get regular periods - something is going right with my body.
- I am grateful that my grandma is a kind sweet person.
- I am grateful that I live in a time where cut flowers are affordable and accessible (though I probably should feel guilty about the carbon footprint).

I'm so grateful that the lady bought me organic strawberries. I thought that was so randomly generous of her, especially after she was so particular and snobby about how she wanted her coffee. I didn't expect her to be so lovely. Tomorrow I am going to have organic strawberries :)

I'm grateful to the lovely man in the cafe for making an effort to talk to me, after refusing to eat my strawberries. He was so lovely and sensitive, and whenever I stopped talking, he would find a way to pick up the conversation again. I gave him a lot of my energy - I'd just come out of a therapy session where I'd sobbed - but it was such a beautiful encounter that it was worth it.

I'm grateful to my therapist for graciously accepting my home baked cinnamon balls. Later I found out that she was wearing vegan shoes so maybe she wouldn't eat the biscuits because they have egg in them. She didn't ask - maybe she didn't want to make me feel bad that she wasn't going to eat them. Still, I'm glad she accepted it, I was worried that she wouldn't, and that would have been more awkward.

I'm grateful that I have a tall clean glass of water by my bedside - and I won't get poisoned from the water I drink - we are in a country with clean running water and we can all be perfectly hydrated.

I'm grateful to the universe for putting me in the right place at the right time to pick up the kitschest picture frame that I've ever seen. Someone was having a clear out and it was left for the taking. I'm going to put something very funny in it. Haven't figured out what yet, but it is going to be magnificently humorous. People will see it and be surprised then laugh and think how clever it is and that they wished they'd come up with it. Goodness, the stakes are high, I'll have to have a think!

My chinchilla loves to cuddle me.
I have a lot of really wonderful friends, both old and new.
Now that I'm living back at home, I can save up a bunch of money to get a bus to travel in.
My brother is now aware of his OCD, is kicking ass in college, and his been off of hard drugs for over a year.
I have massively overcome many of my anxiety issues.
I have left and stayed away from every single abusive relationship I have ever found myself in, and am now a confident, independent young woman.
My parents are very supportive of me.
I have a $15 bookstore gift card from one of my pen pals.
My grandma can live with us instead of a care home, so she is always around her children/grandchildren.

Girl power!! That sounds like an amazing realisation. It's amazing that you've done this. I find it difficult to even recognise an abusive relationship when I'm in one.

- I am grateful that other people have managed to escape abusive relationships and grow afterwards. It gives me hope that I will also learn what this really means, and that I have been doing the right things.
- I am grateful that my cousin is making an effort with me. I'm not sure why now - I think she likes to feel needed, and she probably is under family obligation, since she's one of the few family members I'm still talking to. But I will take it as an opportunity to make friends with her.
- I am not allergic to chocolate like my father is. So I can eat all the chocolate I want :)
- I am so lucky to have a beautiful sexy body with a fast metabolism and hardly any body confidence issues. I've never dieted. I've not been scared into body dysmorphia by the media. If other people don't like my body for whatever reason, they can go away! I am happy with my body the way it is and if people judge me, that's their problem, not mine. I am very grateful to be able to have this attitude. I know it's made much easier by having a nice body in the first place. So I'm doubly grateful. I have one area of my life where I don't have issues. *air punch*
- I'm very grateful that I got lucky with the people I am living with. I found this place through Gumtree, so they could have been anyone. They bake cakes frequently and are doing up the garden. They are pleasant and not too invasive. They are clean and fairly quiet. It's a welcoming home environment.

- The repair man isn't difficult to work with like my landlord is.
- My friend Chris came to London for an impromptu visit. He's going to come to live here so we'll have another person joining our little community.
- I'm grateful that I rescued heirlooms from my grandma's pile of things for charity.
- I'm grateful that I was in the right mood to assert a boundary just now. I'm saving myself from a potentially emotionally dangerous situation that could arise tomorrow.
- I'm grateful that by opening up to three people in my professional network recently about my depression, all three of them contacted me today, offering to meet me for support (in a professional capacity). And a fourth person talked to me for an hour about his ways of coping, which was useful because we have a similar personality type (extrovert, super giving, altruistic, entrepreneurial/creative). The world is genuinely giving back to me. I wonder if there's a reason I've been opening up more to men than women.

I am grateful to live with nice house mates. We support each other.

I am grateful that I do see synchronicity. When I know to look out for something, it appears. I've just found a website that can help me do something I was doing manually. Seeing synchronicity makes things feel more connected and meaningful, even if it's just being connected through my mind.

I am grateful that my therapist is directive. She's helping me decide what to do rather than letting me stew in worry.

I am grateful that strawberry giving really does work as a method for meeting people, having good conversations and spreading a little joy. This time I met my neighbours by giving them strawberries. I also gave some to a friend down the road, and he was very informative about local politics, so I know who to vote for now. I passed on the info to my housemate that has never voted before so maybe he'll vote in this election.

Finally, today I am grateful that I have the skin tone to be able to tan and not burn in the new spring sun. Promise I'll start wearing sun screen now though...

My grandma still seems to be mentally there, although she's in a lot of pain with her poor shoulders.

I have a job and an income.

I have a safe home in a neighbourhood that is safe as far as I know.

A serendipitous trip to a supermarket meant that I could buy food that I rarely have access to, so for lunch tomorrow I've got an old favourite kind of bagel with Israeli aubergine spread and kosher turkey and Jewish pickles... I can't wait!

And bonus gratitude number six: I got selected to go on a free trip to Israel with a charity scheme that helps young Jewish people engage with Israel. I will get to learn about the politics and more about the culture, so I can have informed opinions. I'm going in a week and a bit - I haven't been thinking about it, but it's going to be great - food, lovely people, sunshine, the skimpiest clothes that I can ever wear because of the heat. I've been too wrapped up in my job and weird citalopram side effects to feel happy about this, but this week I am going to focus on it and nurture excitement in myself.

A life which I have control over.
The occasional luck that comes my way.
While I do have bad period pain, I don't throw up from the pain like some women do.
I have a manager who isn't putting pressure on me to get better immediately, as some other managers have done in the past.
I'm grateful there are people who are a lot like me in the world. We can relate to each other and help each other through.

Thanks Terry! It was on the 11th. For some reason I didn't get a birthday thread - even though after last year's no-show for a birthday thread, I made sure my birthday was public. And on Facebook - I'd set it to a private birthday when I set everything to be private in my profile, and then nobody knew it was my birthday, so nobody wished me happy birthday!

So, I'm grateful for:
- not really caring about the quantities of people that wished me happy birthday
- all the people that did remember my birthday - my family and friends
- the thoughtful presents people gave me
- people coming to my birthday party, and having a good time
- people bothering to apologise if they couldn't make it to my birthday party

Ah, thats a shame. Hopefully people will notice on here and you will get a few more yet.

As long as you had a nice birthday, thats all that matters.
