For a while my mum mentioned off and on that she thought she could feel something lumpy in her breast. It just felt like kind of a hard mass, we werent sure if was actually muscle or something like that. She went for a routine mammogram and they noticed a shadowy mass of some kind. She didnt tell me all this until after she had seen a specialist (not sure what type of specialist its is for breasts??) and she said she was told it was just fiborous tissue and so nothing to worry about. I have just been reading on the net about women who were told similar things were just fibrous tissue only for a very apparent lump to show up pushing through the breast months to a year later that was very advanced cancer!

I want my mum to get a second opinion but she doesnt have health anxiety and trusts doctors at their word so just isnt concerned anymore and just keeps telling me its my health anxiety talking and saying shes been told she fine (apparently she was in bits while waiting tosee the specialist though). Should I push this and try and encourage her to go back to our gp and nag for a second opinion? Shes in her 60s which is a danger time for cancer as well isnt it?

About 20yrs ago i found lumpy tissue in my breast, had tests, and was told it was just breast tissue going hard (which tends to happen when you get older, but i was 27) .. so that was that, then a few years later happened in the other breast, so went back to doc, and was same again..... like i say this was 18yrs ago and im still fine!...

I know youre scared. But your mum is happy to trust her doctors opinions on this, so you shouldnt push her to get a second opinion if she doesnt want one. Remember, this is your health anx talking......even if she does go back for a second opinion, I suspect you still wont be 100% convinced shes ok. ...take a deep breath. x Let it go. Paula x

And PLEASE stop going on the internet with Doctor Google...you are only making yourself worse and feeding your H.A!

Trust the doctors, just as your mother does. If your mother continues to do routine mammograms (how often in UK?) they will see if there are any changes in hear breasts in the coming year, and they usually compare old x-rays with new.
