Well Christina, we appear to be the only people on this site who are not from the uk. However I have been welcomed with open arms, and I welcome you with the same spirit. I encourage you to share with us what is causing your panic attacks and health anxiety. And by the way, your english is almost perfect xxx Lex.

thank you so much! :D

dallas11: I'm glad to hear that. :) I think my main fear is fainting/dying/losing control. Or to have a dangerous disease, no one has discovered yet. :( I have to much focus on my body, heart, pulse etc, And have recently found out that my metabolism is to fast, which worries me a lot.

Fast metabolism? same here. Is your resting heart rate above what it should be? Is your fat percentage too low or high given that diagnosis?

With other concerns, I do a comprehensive check up with my doctor every six months. That may put your mind at rest? I find myself stressing out between visits, convincing myself I have some rare disease. Don't look up medical information on the net, or you will find a myriad of conditions that will match your symptoms, even if it's just a hangover... I wouldn't want to minimise it, and I understand that my heart rate being high will potentially shorten my life, but who's to say how long that will be anyway? As well worry about being hit by a cyclist on the footpath tomorrow. I do recommend setting up a check up though as we all should do it (in theory).

With regards to your panic and anxiety, you may find that regular contact with your doctor will assist you with this as well, either via referral to a mental health specialist or recourse to medication. It is always worth bringing up MH with your doctor to see if they will take it seriously. Obviously this is affecting you or you wouldn't be here. Be direct. It's hard, but offers options.

xx Lex.

Yes, my resting heart rate is a little to high. About 80 bpm.
I have a eating disorder too, orthorexia, and a low fat percent (I'm tall and skinny).

What you describe fits perfect on me... Scary. ;)
I'm allways convincing myself I have a dangerous disease! And I'm allways ending up in panic, because of google...

I see my doctor very often (weekly..), and she is already aware of it, but not worried at all. She allways calms me, when i'm convinced that seriously ill, which is quite often...

Christina, don't stress about it. I was always naturally skinny, my body fat was at 12.4% (at 5'7" or 170cm approximately) and my resting heart rate was higher than yours when I was 18. I'm still alive, my resting heart rate is still high and if I don't eat really high calorie foods all my clothes start to fall off within days. e.g I have a pizza eating marathon for three days, I buy a size 8, three days later I buy a size 6. For those that don't know what orthorexia is I'll post a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthorexia_nervosa

Is that what you're suffering from? It sounds awful and very stressful. I learned to accept over many years that I HAD to increase my body fat percentage as apparently you should be around 20% for childbearing purposes - posh spice obiously ridicules this scientific claim. Actually I just wikipediad it and I'm still too low on what a non-athlete female should have. Llink here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_percentage

It's really tough, I've gone through my entire gym relationship with my husband where my resting heart rate is higher than his maximum effort. It's kinda embarrassing to be honest. Feel free to chat with me about any issues you're having.. I may not be tall but I reckon I've been pretty close to where you are. Especially if the link above about orthorexia is correct.

Cheers,
Lex.

I'm naturally skinny too, and have allways been the "skinny girl" in school. I'm usually a size 8 too. :)
I am 175 cm, and weight about 50 kg. (i don't know how many stones or lbs that is...)

I have to increase my body fat percentage too, but I find it very hard to gain weight. I eat and eat all day, but nothing happens. If I don't eat i loose weight extremely fast. And because of my Orthorexia, I'm scared of eating fatty foods, especially from animals, which i have to according to my therapist. (I'm a vegatarian...)
The reason why i'm scared of eating fatty foods, is because I'm afraid that it will harm my health.

Christina. :) x

In the end my doctor recruited my husband. I used to be vegetarian, and was allergic to cow's milk so for two years I had to eat two bacon sandwiches for brekky, a salad, egg, and piece of meat for lunch, and dinners ranging from mashed potato with pie, pasta (I used to just make a delicious sauce based on tinned tomatoes). It was so good. And then I would eat it like a stew. Anyway i had to have a kebab once a week. weird but true. not allowed shish, must be doner ( higher in fat). So now i am at my 20%...

Hej Christina og velkommen til NMP. Hvordan går det? Forresten, din engelska er perfekt. (I speak Swedish so apologies if I misspell in Danish!).

Good to hear that you have regular contact with your doctor. And, as you say, if she's not worried, try to take reassurance, although I know how hard that can be.

I know you'll make some great friends on here and that your experiences will also help others.

Take care and adjø

Pip x
