I have experienced severe panic attacks years ago. They were caused by CANDIDA. That is a condition of a yeast overgrowth in the gut. It causes holes to develop in the intestines and that doesn't allow nutrients to enter the bloodstream and brain - thus the panic attacks. It can be fixed to an extent. I don't have the panic attacks any longer. But I still wake up around 3 at night. Diet is the key. NO SUGAR, DRINK ABOUT 10 GLASSES OF WATER DAILY, GET A ANTI-FUNGAL DRUG FROM YOUR DOCTOR (although most doctors don't recognize candida), AND GET CAPRYLIC ACID FROM THE HEALTH FOOD STORE. GET A BOOK ON IT FROM THE HEALTH FOOD STORE. CHECK INFORMATION ON CANDIDA AND SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT ON THE WEB. Hope the best.

Welcome Karen,
You have been brave enough to join the forum, well done. I was really nervous revealing all my inner thoughts and experiences on this forum, but everyone is in the same boat and everyone has great ideas to help one another. If I feel a panic attack coming on I start my deep breathing exercises, breathing from deep down in your abdomen, not your chest. I've got the written recovery programme from the No Panic website and I'm working my way through it. I also try distraction methods if I'm out and about in a shop or something and I start feeling panicky. I try and think about something nice and talk to whoever I'm out with. The worst thing is being silent when out and about (I'm agoraphobic), as I start thinking about all sorts of crazy things in my head and then start panicking. Have you tried learning the breathing and maybe try a relaxation tape? It's a start. Good luck, you can come through this. Take care - Ange X.

:Dhi karen, i'm also new joined the other day. know what you mean about feeling panicky even writing on this forum! it's mad is'nt it what is there to be frightened of? but the only way i cope - when i'm not in a situation where i'm just panicking constantly - is to will the symptoms to get stronger, but not like say it to yourself , but really hope they don't get any worse, to really mean it, they actually get less. it's frightening yourself that makes them worse. how have you managed to cope with having 3 young children? i don't feel qualified really to give you advice when iv'e resricted my life so much because of fear of panics, but hope we can help each other anyway! emmas<center></center><div align="left"></div id="left">

Hi Karen

Welcome to the forum.

You might like to have a read through the following information as a place to start:

First Steps (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=firststeps)

Symptoms (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/default.asp?t=cms&c=symptoms)

Links post: Links to posts about Common Problems (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7784)

I try to deal with my anxiety and panic attacks by using breathing techniques and waiting for the feeling to pass - whch I know they will. Sometimes I cope better than others and sometimes I do avoid even though I know it doesn't help. I think we all go through that stage at some point.

You will find a lot of help and support here.
