Hi everyone,

I went to my first session with a new counseller last night to overcome my anxiety once and for all (do miracles happen?!)

Anyway, while I was speaking to him he said he wanted to do a questionnaire with me. And I answered yes to every question except one.
It turned out this meant I am a "HSP" person - or "a highly sensitive person"

There is a website and this is what it describes:

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You can become stressed out and upset when overwhelmed and may find it necessary to get away, maybe into a darkened room, to seek solitude, relief and comfort.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You are very creative.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You are very conscientious, hard working, and meticulous, but may become uncomfortable and less efficient or productive when being watched or scrutinized.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You feel compelled to file and organize things and thoughts, also enjoy simplicity and may become overwhelmed or even immobilized by chaos, clutter, or stress.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You are very uncomfortable when feeling things are getting out of your control.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You may experience mood swings, sometimes occurring almost instantly and can also be affected by other people's moods, emotions and problems.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You have a deep, rich, inner life and may also have vivid dreams.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You are very intuitive and you feel that you can usually sense if someone isn't telling the truth or if something else is wrong.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You get concerned and think or worry about many things, and have also been told "you take things too personally."

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIFWhen I must compete or be observed while performing a task, I become so nervous or shaky that I do much worse than I would otherwise.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIFI make it a high priority to arrange my life to avoid upsetting or overwhelming situations.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF Being very hungry creates a strong reaction in me,disrupting my concentration or mood.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIFOther people's moods affect me

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIFMy nervous system sometimes feels so frazzled that I just have to go off by myself.

http://www.highlysensitivepeople.com/images/HSP-BULLET.GIF You were considered quiet, introverted, timid, or shy as a child

I can't quite believe how many of the things match my personality exactly.

Bet you knew this already, didn't you? Hey, it turns out I am an HSP too! I can add this to GAD and SAD etc. I love a good acronym me.
Joking aside, I hope the counselling helps you and best of luck with it.

this is interesting, I have really vivid dreams and nearly always remember them. I put this down to taking sertraline but maybe it's because I'm a HSP haha

I've never heard of this - but it resonates with me! I guess if you're an HSP person you are much more vulnerable to stress, and are much less equipped to deal with it, hence leading to anx and depression. Makes sense to me!
