Hi, I have been taking 40mg all in one go around 5pm. However, I have not been able to sleep straight through the night for months now. Today I am missing the evening dosage and taking the full 40 mg in the morning to see if it helps sleeping at night and helps me feel more calm to face the day. The psychiatrist has just put me upto 60mg and I will likely have to split the dosage between morning and noon time or something depending on how it goes. According to him it doesn't matter what time of day you take it as it is a long acting drug but I don't know if I agree with that.

Hi Manda, I take prozac for ocd and agoraphobia (which are both anxiety disorders). I too have taken it for a long time (about 7 years). I had to take 40mg to have an effect on the ocd, but the agoraphobia is still disabling. About 6 weeks ago I got very low for 4 weeks and I too thought the prozac had stopped working. I was told to increase to 60mg, but psychiatrist says you can still feel low on anti-depressants (something about human nature and ups and downs). If it doesn't help he wants to reassess.
Yes, it gets significantly worse about 1 week before a period, but I just think I know why I feel bad at this time and prozac has been a Godsend as regards periods.
Have you told your gp that you don't know if they are working anymore?
I slept better last night but it could be because I was almost zombied by tiredness. I find the prozac does energise me in the morning but as dr said to take with food (to help with nausea) I am considering taking around noon as I have no appetite in the morning. Let me know how you get on x

Hi little wren
I have often been asked by the gp if i want to try another
antidepressant but over the years have tried others and not been good so
always ended up back on Prozac and I've also tried upping to 60 mgs
But that didn't suit me either......and I'm quite nervous regarding taking
any medications so that probably don't help.
I do think that meds can only do so much to help us and if life
Throws lots at us(I have disabled 14 yr old son and have had a
Bad childhood and few abusive relationships) its so hard to try
and overcome the depression and panic attacks, I also suffer with
Depersonalization have you heard of this when I get anxious which
really terrifys me when it comes, I am going to try taking the Prozac
in the morning well 1 in the morning and 1 tea time, I feel a bit anxious
Taking 40 mgs all at once
Let me know how things go for you taking your Prozac
Manda xx

Hi, Just thought I'd let you know I've just restarted on Prozac 20mg (Day 10) but took 40mg daily every morning with no problems at all for about 2 years. I slept fine and had no side effects at all after the initial month of increasing the dose.
It worked brilliantly for me, hope it does for you too

Hi manda,

Just to let you know how its going by changing dosage time from eve to around noon. Been 2 weeks doing the noon dosage (so I think thats long enough to evaluate) and sleep is a lot better - still wake up in night, but not as bad as before and I actually managed to sleep through the night once :yesyes:. It is definitely a more suitable time for me than evening.

I am not sure if dosage increase is suiting me either. Side effects today (bad nausea, thumping head, dizzy and dodgy belly).

I googled depersonalisation and it does sound horrid. I don't know if there are coping skills your gp could recommend (or refer you on to a clinical psychologist/cpn).
Ive just read your new post and it seems there are others who experience it too. Knowing how others cope is worth its weight in gold.

Let me know how you are getting on.
