Hi

I could really do with some reassurance. I started with panic attacks and anxiety about 2 moths ago. The Doc gave me beta blockers to take if I felt an attack coming on and I haven't had a full attck for quite a while. I think in a way I have lost the fear of the physical symptoms.

But, I keep thinking I am going to go crazy, as in full on need to be in psychiatric ward crazy. Deep down I know I am not but I worry about it and check my behaviour alll the time.

I have started seeing a councelleor and I think in the long term this will help but I need some coping mechanisms as it is all starting to get on top of me.

I just want to be calm and happy.

Hi Skater and welcome to NMP. You deffinately aren't going to go crazy.
To control the panic attacks you could try breathing exercises and relaxation.

Hope you feel better soon:D

Take care

Hi Skater

I'm glad you have started counselling and find this is helping.

The thoughts you have about going crazy are very common and the fact you are thinking and worrying about it means you are not going crazy and you definitely are not going to be locked away. People who suffer from psychosis don't have any insight into the fact that they are ill and believe it is everyone else who is crazy most of the time.

Have a read of these posts for further reassurance:

Thanks so much. I think I have replaced the fear of actual panic attacks with this new anxiety.

Sometimes its just hard to stop it going round and round in my head and I just need someone to say you are not going crazy.

Hi Skater, glad you've started counselling. I had it for a few months. I didn't feel the benefit at first and thought it was a waste of time, but at my last session I came out feeling like a great big weight had been lifted from my shoulders. It is so good to talk. I have irrational thoughts some times. Currently on Prozac and take Diazepam as and when needed. I've suffered for 15 months now after taking an overdose which convinced me that my heart is damaged. I wanted to be sectioned, but after taking the overdose I was assessed and was told it wasn't necessary. I haven't had a full attack for a while, but I do get health anxiety every day which makes me feel like I'm going crazy. All the experts have told me there is nothing wrong with me, so why can't I believe it too!!

I wouldn't wish anxiety on anyone. You're not going crazy mate, probably just a blip that will sort itself out and you will feel happy and calm again.
