this is my first forum post about this drug for me. i have just started taking paroxetine 20mg daily, i have taken all sorts of drugs my whole life, zoloft effexor and so on. ( so many i cant even remember all of them ) but so far paroxetine has been the best so far, i feel a lot better day to day Im not day dreaming any more of very bad thoughts and my aggression is under control with only 2 side effects, difficulty urinating . And the first time i have ever had this side effect from any drug i have ever taken. A massive increased sex drive. and I mean a lot. i cant stop thinks about it. not to get to personal but i have never had this my whole life. i have never had a girlfriend and I have never even tried to get one so my sex drive my whole life was very low due to deep depression and other social problems. HAS ANY ONE had this side effect. because in all the post's i have read about this drug, it decreases a sex drive. but not on me. sorry if this was a bit to personal but i hope some one else out there can tell me if it goes away or it stays for as long as im on the drug. thanks you all for being so understanding, this very personal and will understand if you ask for this post to be removed because of the nature of it. thank you all again.

Always had a high sex drive when i was on it mate no erection problems but just the inability or time it took to come was ridiculous. But to be fair my girlfriend didnt complain but it gets a bit frustrating and knackering when it takes you about 45 mins to come lol :D

Is it possible mark20 that you're just returning to your normal sex drive, which has been suppressed for most of your life due to depression or the other medications you have been on? For most men with a healthy sex drive it is considered normal to think about sex a lot, so maybe it's not an abnormal sex drive but a suddenly returning normal one, which you are not used to?

However even if not, you do start your post by saying you have just started taking it - so you should expect side effects to level out or decrease over the coming weeks. Obviously if you are still rampant after a few months to the point it is causing problems see your GP again.

Hi Mark, from a female perspective, it increased mine too - but I would say that I believe it was because it was such a successful medication for me at the time that once I felt well again, my sex drive naturally increased to "normal".

Having tried other meds (prozac and mirtazepine), I can say that they decreased my sex drive to pretty much zero, because they never made me feel truly well, so I kind of agree with Ingenius that it could be a case of the other meds having previously decreased your sex drive, but perhaps because it has been so long it feels strange/disturbing that it has increased to such a degree.

In an odd way (perhaps), the fact that your sex drive is higher than normal for you is a good sign that the meds are working because when we're anxious/depressed etc, sex is often the last thing we think about.

You don't mention what dose you're on or how long you've on it, I don't know if the dose is a factor but it may be worth considering if its really troubling you.

I don't know if this is helpful or not. I'm not on Paroxetine, but was on Citalopram. I have never had a particularly high sex drive, but even after only two tablets, it shot through the roof. This was the weekend just gone and it's still reeling. If it's any comfort though, I saw my doctor this morning, and she said that high sex drives aren't unheard of with a lot of anti-depressants, especially if you're particularly sensitive to them (which I apparantly am.) Sure, they're rare - as you said, the majority of sexual side effects are decreased drive, but it does happen. She did also say that it is more common in males, if that's any comfort?

I don't know what it's like for you, but for me, the sex drive is physical to the point of really painful (which is what prompted me to see my GP). In any case, she assured me that it should settle down within a week or so.

All the best!

Hi guys
So glad I found this topic... I swear to god my sex drive has gone through the roof !! I am in a BDSM relationship and I am very happy. My sex drive is usually very high and so is my partners. But OMG lately...I can't seem to get it out of my mind.

I am suffering from severe PTSD and anxiety, I was started on sertraline by my doctor and it totally did not agree with me, so she moved me onto seroxat (Paroxetine) 10 mg..it was fine and it worked. She then put me up to 40mg and within a month my sex drive really started to increase. I just want sex all the time...I watched porn for the first time in my life...never really agreed with it but I did...crazy. I am sex crazy and its starting to worry me.

I know a good sex life is healthy but damn this is way more than normal!

I had this effect while takign Zoloft. My libido was normal prior taking medications, but it hit roof with SSRI. I had prolonged erections too. I stopped using medications, trying to find supplement that works for me, but my libido now is much lower and I can't say why. Did anyone had this problem after medication?

Seroxat made me hornier than a brass band hahahaha. Now I'm not on it, that's gone. Maybe I should just go back on it !
