Does anyone still get panic attacks while on antidepressants? especially with Citalopram.
I have been on these since November but had a panic attack again for no reason.

Thanks :)

Unfortunately meds dont cure you, they just mask some symptons so you can live day to day life. so they cant stop panic attacks...
I used to get them still while on meds...

the fight/flight system is powerful

but you just need the right knowledge to start using it on your terms

that website above is one brilliant explanation!

It can happen while you adjust to the meds.
But that's the reason I stopped taking cit, couldn't handle that it made me worse.

Hi

Citalopram was the first medication that i tried...i was only on them for 3 days before throwing them in the bin...id never really had a panic attack until i took on of those....i had terrible side effects.

then i tried Sertraline for 5 weeks....exactly the same with night sweats,....

I dont take meds now...i struggle to take anything as im always scared of getting side effects...

Your body does need time to adjust...give a couple more weeks...if its still causing you bother then i would talk to the GP who may try you on something different.

Hi Em

I suffered with panic attacks for years and no anti-depressant made any difference. Please see some of my earlier posts to see the difficulties I had with panic attacks and depression.

My advice would be to ask to be referred to a psychiatrist by your GP and if necessary pay for a private consultation (mine cost £250 and was the best money I ever spent). A psychiatrist will be able to prescribe meds which are far more suitable to anxiety issues.

I was prescribed pregabalin and have not had a single panic attack since. The conclusion i have drawn is that GPs are called general practitioners for a reason. I really believe that what is needed is specialist advice.

Obviously not everyone will agree and not all meds work for everyone. I also accept that meds are not a very long term solution but the right ones will break the cycle of fear and give you your life back.

Best of luck

i was on them for a couple of years, and still get the odd one every now & then, just not as bad as they used to be.

Hello buffybot yes you can still get panic attacks whilst on citalopram you need to discuss the dosage with the g.p. and see what he can suggest. xxx
