Hi im having a scan of the womb and pelvic area tomorrow and getting myself into a real state about it. Spending nearly all today crying!!
Can anyone give me some advice what it is like and I know it is a silly question but what do I wear? I know when i go for smear tests i wear dresses as it keeps me covered a little more but i know they will want to scan my stomach as well as the internal part.
Please advise!!

Is it a trans-vaginal (internal) scan or one where the probe is put directly onto your tummy? Either way wearing something easy to remove would be a good idea. A trans-vaginal scan will give a more detailed picture of your womb and your ovaries but might be a little uncomfortable. Sometimes a 'doppler' is used as well which gives a more detailed picture of the blood flow through your womb. The sonographer will use gel and usually you will be given a towel or blanket to cover up your lower parts. The tummy scan should not hurt but if at any time you feel uncomfortable you can ask them to stop. I hope it goes well for you. Are they asking for a full bladder as well?

It really doesn't hurt at all I promise. If they do have to use the internal scan thing then it is painless and only goes in the vagina a short way. Obviously you would need to remove underwear for that!

Thank you yes it is both internal and just on tummy. They are asking for full bladder. Im a nervous wreck!!!

I have always had to have the internal one cos my bladder was never full enough even though I did follow their instructions.

Don't be scared - there is nothing to it :-)

Please try not to worry. If you live a little way from the hospital then drink the water in the car park or in the waiting room itself. That way you won't feel uncomfortable for the journey. I tended to have internal scans because they were looking at my ovaries and poking around a bit. Tummy scan should be fine. EJ
