Hello Ricky.

The good news is that however horrendous you feel ( and I can relate) the medical profession is starting to understand depersonalisation and derealisation much better than ever before. I don't know if you find this but for me personally, the more I focus on my feelings and how I view the world, the worse I feel. I know it's hard to ignore these feelings but you have to find a way to confront them for the time being and almost work around them. Make a list of the things you enjoy doing. For example watching funny movies or being around friends. Try to continue doing those things because if you can absorb yourself in something it may help. I haven't read any books on depersonalisation but I know there are a few books out there which are well rated. Type in depersonalisation on amazon and a few titles come up. There is also a specialist depersonalisation unit in London at the maudsley hospital I think. I'm pretty sure it's the only one in the country. I know they have a team of people there who understand depersonalisation well but I'm not sure if it's easily accessible to the general public and I think it's mainly a research facility. I saw my gp last week about my depersonalisation to ask if I could be referred to a psychiatrist as some pychiatrists have a better knowledge of dp. I'm in the process of finding out whether the maudsley clinic will accept standard nhs referrals. Also there is always support on this site, many people have shared experiences so do keep checking back for support and advice and remember you're not alone.
