Swollen jaw

Last week the right hand side of my face swelled to mammoth proportions. I looked a lot like a hamster. I had just eaten a sandwich (nothing that would have caused an allergic reaction and I have no dental probs). Obviously assumed this was a sign of imminent death and quite rightly panicked quite badly. The swelling went down after a couple of hours and my GP is equally confused as to what might have caused it. Any ideas?

Im still buying an allergic reaction to be honest, i woke up about 12 years ago with a similar thing, face like a hamster one side, but i knew it was some purfume, atleast i was 99% sure of that anyway. Never had it again since.
