hi i am new and have been suffering panic attatcks severely mainly feelings of suffocation and fear of death ect ( u all know what i mean)

i have finally taken the step to seek medical help and have been prescribed fluoxetine !!!!

i am very nervous about taking this med and am in a right mess with my attacks so of course do not want to make them any worse

if any of you have any tips or advice on the med as well as attacks please please please feel free to help.

i have always felt on my own so was surprised when i found out how many people suffer with panic attacks, a friend advised me to go on this site and have a read...

so quite brief i know i am sure ill open up a bit more in the future but for now that`s me done hope i get some good replies!!!!

Hello and :welcome:

We're all a good bunch and will help as much as we can, i dont have any tips on Fluxoxetine I took it briefly once upon a time i think, didn't have any problems with it as i recall, just take it, dont be scared of it it's there to help.

As for tips on panic attacks, if i had that i'd be winner ha ha, i do find sometimes that smoking helps as it helps to regulate my breathing when im panicky, but i am in no was advocating smoking ;)

haha i do smoke and have found i`m smoking a lot more which is a shame as it is costing me more lol but hey if it helps...

thanks for the reply it`s nice to know (without being sadistic) that other people are suffering. i have found these attacks really debilitating i have moved further away from my wife as they are waking me up so have to sleep in spare bed and really need to get to the bottom of them...

don`t know if anyone feels like this but i just can`t go on like this i feel like i am going mad :mad:

:welcome:to NMP Adam. Glad that you have found us. There is a brilliant book by Dr Claire Weekes;SELF HELP FOR YOUR NERVES published by Thorsens ISBN 0-7225-3155-9.This is available from the NMP shop. Dr Weekes was a physician and scientist. She was a fellow sufferer (nominated for the nobel prize for medicine) and really understood this illness. She took the mystery out of it, and devised a simple programme for recovery. I can't recommend this enough.( It is a bit old fashioned, but still so relevant).
Here is a link to her site;

This will get better. Veronicax
