well it was a bit strange, my normal gp put me on citalopram and i felt better then i started to feel more depressed and started to get phycosis wich means u either have delusions or hear voices or things like that so my doctor referd me to c a doctor who specialises in mental illnesses, the first time i saw him the first thing he did was tell me to stop the citalopram and start mirtazapine straight away, Anyway im glad he did coz i feel alot better, but please dont let this put u off citalopram coz they will most probably work for u, the citalopram never made me feel worse it just wasnt working for mexx

BECAUSE DOCTORS AND DRUG REPS M,AKE BIG BIG MONEY FROM THIER DRUGS THE BIG PHARMA MAKE THEM SO SOMEONE HAS TO SELL THEM AS IN WAY OF PRESCRIPTIONS,AND DOCTORS DO IT WITHOUT A THOUGHT FOR THE PATIENT,GSK WANTED 50% OF THE FEMALE POPULATION ON THIS DRUG PURELY A SELLING POINT FOR PMT,MENOPAUSE ECT ECT.THESE DRUGS ARE MEANT FOR SEVERE CLINICAL DEPRESSION NOT FOR ANYONE WHO FEELS A BIT LOW OR ANXIOUS,THE BIG PHARMAS JUST GOT GREEDY SO THERE YOU HAVE IT ,WE ARE VICTIMS OF GREED

ITS ABOUT TIME THE DOCTORS LISTENED, I AM NORMALLY AN OUTGOING PERSON AND WAS GIVE CIPRAMIL BECAUSE OF ANXIETY I SAID TO THE DOCTOR I AM NOT A DEPRESIVE PERSON AND HE SAID THESE WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER, WELL 9 MONTHS LATER HE TRIED TO LOWER THE DOSE BY GIVING ME LIQUID FORM CIPRAMIL, GUESS WHAT IT DIDNT WORK SO HE HAS PUT ME BACK ON THE 10MG AND I HAVE SPENT THE LAST 2 DAYS NR THE LOO AND ALSO MY SEX DRIVE HAS ?????????????????????? THEY WORK THESE THINGS BUT GETTING OFF EM ??????

doctors dont make any money from perscriptions or the amount of drugs they prescribe or sell, a doctor is trained to use medication to treat illnesses, we are lucky we only have to pay 6.50 for a perscription that aint the true cost these drugs cost thousands.

doctors make gains from prescribing these drugs,a doctor spoke out in scotland that in med school, which is funded by big pharma, they are trained to use thier persuation in getting patients to believe they have depression just to prescribe the drugs.Have you never seen drug reps at your docs surgery?? giving free lunches and perks to use thier drugs? im not saying docs see any profit in the prescription itsself, the perks are enough and without drugs big pharma make would docs have jobs? mmmm thats a hard one he could give a diagnosis but what else?? come on think about it,docs are the middle men for big pharma to get rid of thier poison.

buxy, i am sorry you have had a hard time coming off your meds, but this is not the case for everyone. i have taken prozac for around 3 years and it has made life so much better for me, in all honesty i wish i had been prescribed it 15 years ago when i was first depressed, i wouldn't have wasted so much time with anxiety.

i have also had time off prozac, and came off them very slowly - i had no side effects, the only problem i had was that after a long while, my depression and anxiety came back - this was relapse, not withdrawal - it is to be expected that i would go back to the same state as i was in before i started taking them - they are not a cure, but they can help you cope.

if the choice is between meds and living a full life, or no meds and being a nervous wreck i know which i would prefer. i am on the waiting list for cbt, but like most people it will be a long wait, so i'm not going to feel bad for taking meds to make my life that bit easier.

jools, i hope your change of meds works for you, and buxy i hope you feel better soon.

take care,
mag

Hi All

Doctors I think are supposed to follow the NICE guidelines when prescribing medicines. The first drug to try is Citalapram according to NICE guidelines.

I think the meds have been pushed by salesman - I think that was certainly the case with Seroxat years ago.

Take care all

hmmmm

i really dont think doctors persuade u to take the meds, the only reason they r quick to prescribe ppl who r depressed is bcause there is a risk of suicide, i wouldnt like to think my doctor is just givin me meds for the sake of it..

firstly if you know that you are no worse than the origional symptoms when you get off the drugs then fine go with instinct that its not withdrawal, when you get off and have stuff that you have never experienced in your life then im sorry but only the drugs can be to blame.Im not into bashing drugs and drug companies for the sake of it im talking from my experience and an awful lot of others. These are mind altering drugs after all,why is it so bad to do recreational drugs(iv never done any),which also alter the mind but ok to take prescribed ones which are very simular in chemical make up? because noone but the street pusher makes money?.
Doctors are prescribing these drugs for more than depression,ie back ache, pmt, menopause, emotions that are normal human feelings of loss or breakup, therapy would work a lot better and would cause any injuries.
They have now even admitted that these drugs can cause suicide tendancies in the under 30,s whats that about whats so different in a 30 yr old brain to a 40 yr old?.
I know docs are getting better with what to prescribe and not just the one who has given them the biggest lunch ticket,im not saying all docs are bad,iv yet to find a good one but hey thats life.
Im not here to put peeps off drugs, just to offer what i know and share my experience, but these drugs are no cure they are a band aid to cover your problems up for a while ,its when you want to cope on your own and get off thats when you realise its the biggest hell anyone could go through
