I'm really excited for an event next week - feeling giddy and incredibly happy. But this is triggering panic attacks, even though I have nothing to be scared of! What's going on? Is it the adrenaline?

I think it is the adrenalin, caused by excitement!!!!!

Nervous excitement... I've got a bowling ball in my stomach, a desert in my mouth....

It's soooo unfair that even the good stuff can make us feel this way!

Oh I hate it when I'm happy and excited, and it seems to trigger anxiety. I think you're right though - I think the adreneline is just all messed up.

Hi,

I get this too and it's so annoying! It's almost as if the wrong set of adrenaline is triggered off, thus causing an anxiety/panic attack.

Instead, why don't you just try and shrug it off. The best way you can stick a middle finger up to anxiety/panic is by having a big lovely smile on your face and remembering what you're happy/excited for.

I hope whatever it is proves to be a lovely experience for you.

All the best,
Becky

It is quite extraordinary that panic attacks can even come from happy moments as well. Like others have pointed out, it is the adrenaline getting to your head. Once you calm down, though, it will go away.

Of course, getting a panic attack even when excited is not normal, so looking into it would be wise.

i was playing with my dog this morning then out of the blue i couldnt breathe, or thought i couldnt, i ran across the road in the rain in my pj s to get help from my neighbour after 5 mins i was fine again. i did have a teeth chattering moment and shaking during that time tho. i am sick of anxiety!

I understand this feeling.

For me it can even arise from watching something funny on TV - which causes an over excited feeling that I have to kind of shake off. It's not true anxiety, but it's annoying nevertheless.

Jeez! how weird that this should come up! I have been offered the opportunity of a lifetime to go on an ALL paid for cruise on a Cunard ship in January as a companion for a dear old lady I clean for ( she has become my friend). It will be my 50th birthday during the 12 day cruise and I am Soooo anxious about it I don't know whether to accept the invitation or not..... is this all anticipatory anxiety???????

What should I do?!!!

Sorry to nab your thread

I usually get this as well - especially as I am getting ready for something that I am excited about. Things really kick in and I end up with a racing heart, stomach going crazy and the feeling that I keep needing to heave, as though I need to vomit (even though I really don't).... Extremely annoying! :(

Went to see Robbie Williams on Sat & I managed to hold it together & not hyperventilate (like I usually do) or get palpitations etc. This is the first gig I've been to in years where I could just enjoy it & where I didn't feel overly anxious! For me it's the excitement creating adrenaline that creates the (same as anxiety) symptoms that then makes me anxious because my hearts beating faster or I'm overbreathing. So I then associate good excitement with anxiety! Crap isn't it!!

I get it too. It's the habit we've gotten into, any emotion triggers anxiety i don't get panic attacks but anxiety bouts.
