I started with toothache a couple of days ago and went to the dentist this morning. He said I had a gum infection and gave me some antibiotics. I'm already taking anti-ds and tablets for vertigo but he said it was fine to take these as well. I saw two pharmacists who both so said it was ok to take these anti-bs with what I'm already taking.

Had the first anti-biotic half an hour ago n am now having a major panic thinking I should have seen a doctor not just some pharmacists who prob haven't got a clue about me or my health.

I've started feeling woozy now n feel terrified I'm gonna have some major drug interaction. And if I get sick overnight I've no idea what I'll do as I can't get to a doctor.

Really going out of my mind. I was doing quite well and now I'm terrified I'm going to cause myself to be ill by taking too many drugs.

I know that once you have an idea in your head it can be really difficult to get rid of it, especially when it's a worry about something.

However... try and think of all the people who are prescribed anti-biotics while they're on anti-depressants. Same with the medication for vertigo. LOADS of people will have been through the same thing. I personally have taken anti-biotics many times whilst I've been on anti-depressants and I've never had a problem. If there was a real risk/ an interaction had happened with many people, we would know about it.

Technically I guess there's always a risk that drugs can interact with each other as everyone's personal biochemistry is different. But as I said, if it happened in many people with antibiotics and anti-depressants, we would know about it.

There's no point worrying about it - just concentrate on taking your anti-biotics on schedule and look forward to your gum infection getting better! :)

Btw, something I've found useful while taking anti-biotics is to make sure I drink probiotic drinks every day (e.g. Actimel), because it replaces some of the good bacteria (esp. in the gut) that anti-biotics kill off.

So yeah - in short, don't worry!! You'll be fine :)

Hi,
I know its easier said than done, but please try not to worry.
I have worked in dentistry for 18 years, and yes it is perfectly safe to take the antibiotics with the other meds, the antibiotics can take about 24 hours to work and you need to finish the course.
I hope this eased your mind a little.:)

You will be fine ..Ive taken antibiotics a few times and also for a gum infection .Im also taking SSRI,S .Pharmacists know more about effects of drugs and side effects than Drs ..Your Dentist should always know what other Drugs you are taking and wouldn 't risk prescribing something that could potentially affect your health ..Like Chemilyx suggests, its advisable to take a probiotic to put back the good bacteria the antibiotics kill off .Then you wont get an upset tum .Hope you feel better soon ..Sue ..

Pharmacists know all about drug interactions, and are probably more up to date than docs on such things, so if they say its ok, then dont worry.

Yes much better if you go into the doctor first because they know what it is, if not they will give you recommendation to specialists.
