Hiya guys!

I am a bit stuck with what to do now about my acid reflux issues....

I went for a barium swallow about a month ago and the results were all normal. Sooooo......

1) does this mean there is no sign of acid reflux and my symptoms are something else? If so why do I keep taking 40mg of omeprazole?

2) what other tests can be done to ascertain what my symptoms are caused by? Currently these are thick mucus, dry mouth and bloated feeling!

3) the ent docs said that I don't need a scope but what if the problems in my stomach? Does a barium show stomach too?

4) I have been feeling a bit breathless and not sure if it's anxiety related due to the stress of this or durn other symptom of what is wrong!

5) what do I say to the doc? I am booking an appointment to go over all my fears but have a feeling I may get palmed off as I have been seeing a Castro specialist! I am fed up living with these symptoms and what answers!

Any one who has had similar symptoms or has any advice I'd really appreciate it as I am sooooo peeved that I get no answers just tests that prove nothing! Something is not right clearly but what and why r the gps not interested?

Cheers for ur responses in advance....

Mike

What drug are you taking for the acid reflux?? Omeprazole seems to be the most effective at stopping this problem.

The barium would show up most stomach problems like hiatus hernia but this test is not as sensitive as someone actually looking at the inside of you. Inflammation does not usually show up on barium from things like gastritis or irritation of your oseophagus.

YOur Gp can refer you direct for a gastroscopy without needing to see a specialist so maybe discuss this with your GP. If you are already taking omeprazole then if you still have acid refluz this def needs further investigations as to why.

I have haitus hernia and have had reflux for past 30 years, I take ranitidine but it is not working very well so am wondering if I need omeprazole instead. my last gastroscopy was 2 yrs ago.
