Social Anxiety mainly due to IBS?

Can anyone offer any help with being anxious and the main reason being IBS and the pain it can cause?

My ex-partner actually believed her IBS was the cause of her social anxiety. But it was the other way round. Whenever she anticipated social events, she would start with cramps and would need to use the toilet (also had loose stools). I find it shocking that the doctors focused on treating the IBS with medication, instead of treating the anxiety. Eventually I got her to go to CBT and it helped.
