View Full Version : Life going nowhere - "Quarter Life Crisis"

I've always suffered from bad depression and social anxiety. I graduated in 2008 and since then I have lost contact with all my friends, I work in a low pay dead-end job, living in a bedsit.

I don't know how to turn my life around, everyday I just want to rest my back and am too tired to do anything. I don't go out and socialise at all.

Has anyone got any advice for me, it feels like life is passing me by.

Hi Nowayhose

(Good name by the way)...

I am 25 and I have the same problem as you, as does my boyfriend, where you feel like life is going by and you can't stop it, and you feel like you're wasting it...

I find that sitting back and asking myself questions helps, like, what makes me happy? What do I want to make me feel better and feel fulfilled?

Don't get me wrong, I struggle answering the questions for myself, but if you can figure out what it is that you find most important to make you happy (maybe it's friends, a certain career, etc) then focussing on what you want from them, you can make yourself an action plan and work towards them. When I say action plan, I don't mean an essay, maybe just, for example, 'I want a career in pet care, so I will look for and apply for jobs at Pets at Home and local pet stores' or 'I want to make new friends, so I will start visiting a free group at my local library' or something.

Even aiming for something, or feeling like you are doing something to move forward, can help this feeling of being stuck to go away.

Good luck with it all,

Danny x

Dingle's advice is good, you need a plan of action.

Take it one step at a time. Perhaps join a Gym at your local sports centre, its quite cheap. Start frequenting a local coffee shop, I have social anxiety and I do this, I have made some 'friends' there. Look in your local paper or search the internet for groups that meet in your area. If you had a hobby when you were younger, perhaps you could take it up again.
