Hello

What do i do if i feel intense anxiety or panic coming on when im out especially in a supermarket?I find it hard to breathe as my chest is permanently tight and i feel like i cant breath its awful.Also i suffer with dizzyness sometimes it swirls or spins or i feel like im swaying and motion make me feel worse what can i do to help myself?

Hi Claire

You can draw your stomach muscles in and hold for 5 seconds then let go fully so they pop out.

This relaxes them and your diaphragm which will help you breathe more fully. It only works for a minute or two if you are having really bad anxiety but you can keep doing it and it will generally get you through.

If you can practice this while you are not anxious it will become easier to do and work better with practice.

Its part of a program called "Progressive Muscle Relaxation"
