Bipolar...what are the symptoms?

I'm worried about my mental health at the moment. I have suffered with depression in the past but feel I am in a different place now...

Has anyone suffered from bipolar? I'm worried I have similar symptoms but feel if I tell my doctor he won't believe me

From what I know, you'll have extreme highs where you are manic.
You'll feel very happy,powerful, you'll take extreme risks, spend too much money, generally go over the top.

Then you'll have bad lows where you'll be very depressed.
