Prozac worked for me for years but then stopped working. After two years of trying other meds im gonna try prozac again. Has anyone had success with an ssri a second time around?

I've been on prozac 3 separate times - it seemed to work well in each instance, though this time around I had terrible side effects getting used to it. I'm a lot better now and feel closer to how I was when I was last on it. I don't know whether its effectiveness diminished over time, but I never went higher than 20mg. If I start to see a return of my symptoms I may give 40mg a go before switching meds.

Apparently its common for the efficacy of a particular SSRI to increase if you haven't been taking it for a while. Some people for who the meds stop working after a while, choose to 'cycle' through their SSRIs, and when they come back to the first one, their body has had a long enough rest from it that it becomes effective again.
