I've come here because, after years, I've accepted that I really do need help! So why not come to the people who can help me most? The people who understand what I'm feeling!
I don't know if you know anyone else with this phobia, but I have a terrible fear of the sounds of someone eating or chewing gum. It isn't like "Oh, that's so annoying." It's more like "Oh, I think I'm going to kill them or myself."
It's gotten so bad that I have to eat in a seperate room as my family. It makes me really sad. I hate myself for having this fear. But as soon as I'm around someone smacking their food, I panic and become really angry. I become quite childish, storming off and things like that.
It's not as bad in crowded places with tons of people because there is so much talking noise that it can be covered. However, I've recently became able to notice the sound of every single "smack", even in the theatre.
My faith is very important to me but my fear even makes me consider stopping going to Church. In Sunday school, they pass around hard candy for everyone to suck (very loudly) on. And all at once, the room feels so small and I feel trapped within all the noises.
I can't take it anymore!
If someone has suggestions on how to get over it, please help me because I can't go on living like this. I hate avoiding everyone just because they do what humans regularly do. I know it's a thing in life I'll never be able to stop, so help me get over my fear. It's taking over my life!

Welcome to the forum, Boafan.

I don't have a solution to your problem but please do not think that you'll never be able to stop it. You are still quite young and there is plenty of scope for overcoming this given the right help.

Do you know why you have this phobia, and have you talked it over with any kind of specialist?

Take Care,

Ray

Hi Boafan
welcome to the site, i have a friend whos very similar to you, she cant stand anybody eating crisps, apples, rock anything that sounds when youre eating, she wont have her 2 sons sitting in the same room as her when their eating as she says they eat like the plates going to be snatched from them before theyve eaten it, she also says they" slap their chops" when i go and she offers me crisps im not joking but even i wait for the crisps to melt in my mouth, she feels like she could scream and cry her eyes out when she hears people eating, and she also feels like she could do physical harm to them for eating that way, ive known her walk out of the room when she cant stand it any more, so believe me you are not alone on this

Take care

Hi Boafan

Welcome aboard.

Maybe something like hypnotherapy could help you with these issues?

Hi! No, that's what bothers me a lot! I don't know why this happened. I don't even remember when it started. And I haven't talked to anyone about it. My family just thinks I'm trying to hear for it. Trust me, I hate it so bad, there's no way I'd want to hear.

That sounds just like me. I feel for her! How long has she been that way?
