Anxiety and heart attack

Hi all

I am suffering really bad anxiety at the moment to the point where my whole body hurts and I think I'm going to die :(

Just wondered whether you can have a heart attack due to severe anxiety? I have seen a cardiologist who says I have a very low cardiac risk.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Panic happens because of a response to the fight or flight impulse. Your body makes your heart beat faster in order to provide more blood to your arms, legs etc so that you are prepared to fight or run away from the perceived danger. Having a heart attack would not be helpful to you either fighting or running away, and so a rapid heart rate will not logically lead to a heart attack.
