Just to let everyone know that my neurologist appointment went fairly well.

I definitely don't have MS!

Symptoms are from migraine she assures me.

I have to get MRI to check if there's any permanent damage (not sure what this means) but she said in her opinion there will be none.

She also said I have increased chance of stroke because of my migraines, with the aura.

But I looked at it's only 8 in 100,000 chance still pretty low, and also I've only had 3 migraines in my life.

I'm trying to stay positive and not focus on this small chance.

It's VERY hard, but I'm determined not to latch onto another fear.

I don't have MS and that's what I was certain I did have.

Hopefully the MRI will be okay too.

Thanks for all your support and help guys!

Damage from migraines? Never unless you have been banging your head on the wall with them as I do from time to time. In nearly 64 years of suffering at least three a week I have never heard such rubbish in my life and I had been there with you I would have told them that.

I might not know a lot but I know a hell of a lot about migraine and even taught the Migraine Trust a few things over the years. What you were told in my opinion for what it is worth was at the best crass stupidity and at the other end of the scale professional negligence. Either way they have caused you unnecessary anxiety and that is deplorable.

Maybe she thinks I had a mini stole :(

Which is even more worrying :(

I think migraines can cause some damage.

I dunno, worried now :(

Never. As I said I would have had a go at her if I had been there. If you had had a mini stroke you would have known about it. I have had many T.I.A's [mini strokes[] and a real one. MIGRAINES CAN NOT CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE. FACT!!!!

Stop worrying. It is her problem for telling you this crap do not let her make it yours.

YES. As I said been there got the t-shirts [plural had quite a few].

Mini strokes are no different to full blown ones except the effects go after 24 hours max.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

I'm starting to get panicky about this whole thing again :(

When I got my migraine it was the first one in 12 years and I think it was caused from taking a legal high (similar to ecstasy).

I could still speak perfectly well and the paramedics did all the stroke tests and they were all fine, the arm ones and facial expressions and stuff.

So this would indicate it was definitely not a mini-stroke yeah?

Why the heck is the DR giving me an MRI then?
Just to be on the safe side there's nothing else wrong?

I'm so confused :(

Some Doctors will give you anything they can think of to cover their backsides.

PM or email me any time. Do not know how but it seems if has got round the site I am the one to talk to about migraine as someone said a few minutes ago on another thread. Yes I am but do not know how word has spread.

I have also in the last few minutes been thinking of putting a migraine information and contact etc for it on my website. SERIOUSLY!!

Mind you it could be Fozzy Bear migraines arew not like human ones. Must ask my Vet. :winks:

Anyway STOP worrying and instead laugh in the knowledge that your ignorant a...hole of a Doctor is just that from the stupid things she said to you. :yesyes:

My grandma had a series of mini-strokes and I've had migraines for over 12 years. They are NOT alike, trust me, and you would know if you had had the former, definitely.

Hi ElectricAlice,

I am currently waiting for a neuro appointment myself after being refered by my doctor.

What sort of things did they do there? any tests?

and do you know how long you have to wait for the MRI now?

Thank you, that's really relieving.

It's so frustrating, I wasn't even worried about strokes/mini strokes. I was worried about MS.

And after the neurologist said all this I'm now worried :(

It's so difficult, I'm so upset again :(

She asked me everything about my symptoms, family history.
Pricked my legs, arms and face with a pin.
Made me touch my nose with my eyes shut.
And made me follow a pen with me eyes.

Few weeks until the MRI

Alice - I would ask the GP about this as they will send a report to them etc.

I am not sayng you misheard or got it wrong but I have never heard of this either and you need to find out for your own peace of mind.

All standard tests for signs of a stoke mini or otherwise.

I assume also ran a pen or something like it over the soles of your feet.

I thought they would do something more complex than that, i have no idea really lol.

Its good thats its not MS then and hopefully the MRI comes back clear.

Hi I work with stroke patients so have quite a lot of knowledge in this area. If you had had a TIA (mini stroke) your symptoms would have gone after 24 hrs, if you had a CVA (stroke) your symptoms would have lasted longer and you would know about it. It's surprising as we have seen quite a few admissions of young people who have been given A diagnosis of migraine. They are doing the MRI as they are just following guidelines. Migraines don't damage the brain but they do leave a scar. If you want to know anymore just ask.
Ps I think the fact your symptoms have reduced since your appointment says it all.

I think thats what was meant when she mentioned Migranes is the leave a permanant scar on the brain which they will want to look at on the MRI just to be safe.

I dont see it as a bad thing there just ensuring everything is ok and reassuring you but as was said the fact your symptoms have relaxed says alot now its time to get back to a full recovery safe in the knowledge

Yeah I was just going to clarify about scars on brain and brain damage ... My parents are both epileptic and my dad had a MRI sand they found scarring on his brain, but this is different from brain damage and nothing to worry about. We use so little of our brains anyway!

Hi there!

I know what your going through.. Some strange things were happening to me and on certain occasions terrifying things.

I am only twenty and I got sent to a TIA specialist at the hospital. He was sure that I hadnt had a stroke but complex migraines and carried out those same strength related tests. However he still sent me for an MRI scan.. The reason for this was to be 100% sure and he said once I have had an MRI I have had an MRI. If anything to put your mind at rest.. And if anyone asks its been done then.

Don't look at it negatively (seems rich coming from me) they are doing it for your benefit and peace of mind.

The doctor has now taken me off the combined pill and put me on the mini pill I have yet to see if there is any effect on migraines and have a neurologist appointment for January. I belive this is a follow up process after my MRI although the doctor has already contacted me to say no stroke.

I hope this helps :-)
