Oh heck, I hope you don't think I was being snotty with them? I just posted because when I did my thesis recently I wanted to contact the general public with a questionnaire, and so I had to make sure that my proposals covered safeguarding data issues etc. Plus I had a respondent who asked me if they could contact the University to check I was a student before they answered, which I thought was only fair as (like the UCL poster) I had contacted my participants online so they didn't know me personally.
